🌟 Meet Dr. Domitrovic! 🌟 Jessica Domitrovic, MD, is a family physician at our Baptist Primary Care Mandarin North office. Although born in Houston, Texas, Dr. Domitrovic has lived all over—from Northern California to Massachusetts, Western Pennsylvania, and back to Houston. Three years ago, Jacksonville became home when she relocated here for her family medicine residency. She loved it so much, she decided to stay. Why family medicine? Dr. Domitrovic loves the variety it offers, seeing patients of all ages and performing hands-on procedures. Most of all, she finds it incredibly rewarding to get to know her patients over time, helping them improve their health and happiness. Outside of work, Dr. Domitrovic has a passion for gardening, especially orchids and tropical plants. She also enjoys spending time with family and friends, boating, beach days, and caring for her new puppy. Fun fact: She has even shown her Spaniels in conformation shows! Sailing, skiing, and traveling are also at the top of her list. We’re thrilled to have Dr. Domitrovic as part of our Baptist Health family! 💙 To learn more about Dr. Domitrovic, visit https://lnkd.in/e2sxPXgk.

An Open Letter To Our Community From The Baptist Health System Board Of Directors: Tomorrow is an important day for health care in Jacksonville and across northeast Florida. Unless Florida Blue decides at the last minute to prioritize the health of our community, Baptist Health and Wolfson Children’s will no longer have a contract with Florida Blue on Tuesday morning. As the volunteer, local board for the entire non-profit Baptist Health system, we need to call attention to the significant challenges over the last several years. COVID stressed our system, and its impacts are still being felt in terms of workforce compensation (+57%), costs of pharmaceuticals (+37%), and health care inflation, which has grown 50% faster than what we have received from Florida Blue in rate increases since 2016. For every new dollar we received from Florida Blue, inflation cost us $1.50. The cost of treating a patient doesn’t change with a different insurance card in their wallet. We have seen the data: Florida Blue pays us about two-thirds of what they pay other comparable health systems in the state, despite our straight-A quality report card from Leapfrog and despite the fact we provide many critically needed services, such as behavioral health, at a significant loss. We must correct this disparity, which perpetuates an uncompetitive health insurance market. Such an imbalance isn’t good for employers who buy health insurance, and it’s not good for the community. According to our internal analysis, over the past year Florida Blue denied claims at more than twice the average denial rate of all of our other commercial payors. Ultimately, 80% of the denials challenged on behalf of our patients were overturned. This means care was unnecessarily delayed and employers were unnecessarily burdened with the administrative costs of managing the denied claims of their employees. The correction we seek will affect Florida Blue’s total spend on health care services in the region by less than 2% a year. It’s not insignificant, but it’s also not the massive impact that Florida Blue has led people to believe. You may have noted that Baptist Health is not the only health system renegotiating its contract. As a result of shortfalls in other forms of reimbursement, comprehensive health systems like ours must rely on commercial insurance companies to pay them fairly, according to overall market data, not based on what one insurer decides is fair. We’ve given them eight months to work with us to reach a new agreement, and it hasn’t happened yet. As a result, people are now faced with either selecting new insurance, so they have in-network access to Baptist Health and Wolfson Children’s, or choosing to stay with Florida Blue and change physicians and hospitals. (letter continued in comments)

Florida Blue has intensified its public campaigns including videos with false statements designed to create fear in our community and try to force us to accept a deal that is not fair to us, our patients and community. They continue to foster confusion and create anxiety, particularly among families with children who depend on Wolfson Children's Hospital. To put a finer point on it, their recent statement that "Baptist Health said that Wolfson will not be available to our members unless we pay them (insert exaggerated number here) over 5 years" is a lie. There is no other word for it. Baptist Health’s commitment is unwavering to this community. We hold a deep sense of responsibility to deliver high-quality care at every stage of life & especially our community's children– both now & in the future. We want to assure our community that we will continue to provide •24/7 emergency care to our Baptist Health & Wolfson Children's patients* •continuity of care* for elective services for 90 days or more as approved, for adult & pediatric patients who are already under our care for serious or ongoing conditions such as cancer or pregnancy •urgently needed non-emergency care for our Wolfson Children's patients through single-case agreements for immediately necessary, specialized treatment & services that are not otherwise available in the community •24/7 On Demand virtual care & CareSpot Urgent Care as well as all other services unaffected by this negotiation •for primary or other elective care, we will be happy to work w/ each individual on a case-by-case basis *These are REQUIRED BY LAW to be covered at the in-network member co-pay, deductible & coinsurance cost Florida Blue is 12x our size & ranks as the 7th largest insurance company in the US. Their parent company, Guidewell, is listed as non-profit in the state of Florida, but under that umbrella Florida Blue remains a private for-profit company. Despite the appearance of being a familiar Jacksonville hometown face, Florida Blue matches the definition of "big insurance," employing hardball tactics to bully our local nonprofit hospitals & physicians. Their interest lies in underpaying while depicting us as unreasonable or even greedy for seeking fair & timely reimbursement for the same level of high-quality care & services provided by comparable health systems just 2 hours south in Orlando. It's time Florida Blue stops short-changing our community. On behalf of Baptist Health & our more than 15,000 caregivers & 2,000 physicians who reside in Northeast Florida, we ask for you to stop believing the hard-ball tactics Florida Blue is using to win at all costs. You deserve better. Nurses, physicians & frontline workers in NEFL deserve better. Join us in urging Florida Blue to stop its scare tactics putting your health care at risk. Put that time, energy & false advertising into a fair agreement that keeps Baptist Health & Wolfson Children’s in-network for everyone. https://lnkd.in/ezu92Ki5
