At the Jacksonville Jaguars' first preseason game, Al Stewart suffered a #stroke. But thanks to his knowledge of the acronym BEFAST, the quick action of the EverBank Stadium paramedics and Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, and the hard work of our team members, Al was back at the stadium to witness the Jags' first win of the season! 🏈🏆 Remember, if you experience any of the following symptoms, "be fast" and call 911 - you could be experiencing a stroke! 👣 B - trouble balancing or walking 👀 E - eyesight blurred or loss of vision 😕 F - facial droop 💪🏻 A - arm or leg weakness/numbness 🗣️ S - slurred or incoherent speech 🚨 T - time to call 911 #BaptistProud

Last week, Ms. Shirley was evacuated from Manatee Memorial Hospital in the Bradenton area ahead of Hurricane Milton and safely brought to Baptist Medical Center Nassau. Along with eight other patients, she made a long 5-hour journey in the emergency lane, and our team—from the emergency department to house supervisors, dietary staff and inpatient units—worked swiftly to get everyone settled and comfortable. As our #BaptistNassau team learned more about Ms. Shirley, she shared that the last time she was on Amelia Island was 48 years ago during Shrimp Festival weekend—when she came to get her marriage license! To celebrate her return, her care team surprised her with an Isle of EIGHT FLAGS SHRIMP FESTIVAL INCORPORATED shirt and some Fernandina Beach goodies. 🦐🌴 Wishing Ms. Shirley a safe journey home after her discharge! 💙

Happy Physical Therapy Month! Meet Maria Sayas-zmirska, a physical therapist at #BaptistSouth. Maria has been with Baptist Health for 12 years! Q: Why did you decide to work in rehab? A: I like seeing results in what I do and making a positive impact on people’s lives. Q: What do your day-to-day responsibilities usually look like? A: I start my day seeing my first patient. I listen to how they are doing and how the treatment has affected them and then we problem-solve on what we can do to improve them further or change our course of treatment. We see several patients and individualize treatments based on their responses. We employ manual therapy, exercises and lots of education to our patients. I see new patients with musculoskeletal, neurologic or general physical conditions and we assess and categorize their problem and plan a course of physical therapy treatment. Q: What makes you proud to be a rehab therapist/specialist? My ability to impact patients' lives for improved physical health and wellness, as well as the logical and problem-solving aspects of it. Q: Where is your favorite place in the world? A: Japan and anywhere I am with my daughter. Maria, thank you for your commitment to serving our patients every day! #BaptistProud

✨ Hope, Healing & Heritage ✨ In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, we honor Nol Wenly Jean Baptiste, Business Operations Manager with Baptist Heart Specialists. Nol’s journey from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to Baptist Health is a powerful testament to resilience, hope and dedication. Born and raised in Haiti, Nol was taught to embrace who he is and believe in his potential to make a difference in the world. “My teachers always told us that we are the future and believed in our potential to make a difference in the world. I still carry their words with me and am determined to help build a bright future for all, inspired by the belief they had in me,” Nol shared. Nol's path wasn’t easy. After the devastating earthquake in 2010, which claimed the lives of many loved ones, Nol felt a deep desire to rebuild his homeland. In 2012, he came to the United States, hopeful for opportunities that would one day allow him to help Haiti. “As a young adult, I believed that by studying how things worked here, I could one day return to Haiti armed with the knowledge and tools to help rebuild my homeland,” Nol said. “I realize now that is just a dream. The reality is, Haiti continues to face immense challenges and while I still love Haiti and long to see it rise again, there are ways I can put my skills and passions to use here in my new home.” Today, at Baptist Health, Nol finds purpose and fulfillment by helping optimize daily operations, ensuring the best care for our patients. “Each day at Baptist Health is a new learning experience, and I find myself growing professionally and personally. The sense of purpose that comes with this work is incredibly fulfilling.” Despite the struggles that Nol has endured, he remains hopeful and strives to be a positive light for others. He attributes this mindset to his parents, saying that his mother always demonstrated the importance of seeing the world through the eyes of a child, with wonder and imagination. Nol’s father taught him that when you believe in yourself and your dreams, you are more inclined to dedicate time, energy and effort toward realizing them. “During Hispanic Heritage Month, I think not only of my family, my teachers and my community in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, but of the family I have built here, who have embraced me with open arms.” Nol's story is a reminder of the power of hope, resilience, and living with an open heart. “Through understanding and appreciation, we discover not only the beauty of diversity but also the connections that bind us all. Let our hearts be open, for in embracing each other’s heritage, we find the true path to a harmonious and empathetic world,” Nol added. #BaptistProud
