"Our tech platforms have a mix of legacy systems coupled with modern systems, which means that the weakest link determines the overall system performance. US–Ukraine Reconstruction, Investment, and Innovation Forum, held on July 16, 2024, at Georgetown University, featured a series of timely discussions on supporting post-war reconstruction efforts in Ukraine. 🇺🇦 As Ukraine continues to face significant challenges during the third year of the full-scale invasion by russia, discussions like these are essential for planning and supporting the country’s economic recovery. Nick Bilogorskiy 🇺🇦, Chairman of Nova Ukraine, was invited as a speaker for a panel discussion called “Renewal and Reinvention.” Along with valuable insights into Nova Ukraine’s ongoing efforts and future plans for rebuilding Ukraine, he shared his expertise on the tech landscape and successful business startups in Ukraine. “The best predictors of success are sustained heavy effort and time spent,” Bilogorskiy remarked, explaining why Ukrainian small businesses have experienced such growth, even in wartime. “Resilience and adaptability are crucial traits exhibited by Ukrainian founders. Despite immense challenges like the ongoing war and economic instability, many Ukrainian startups have secured significant funding and expanded internationally.” Since 2014, Nova Ukraine has been dedicated to providing humanitarian aid and raising awareness about Ukraine. Thanks to generous donations, we’ve sent over $100 million worth of aid to Ukraine, organized fundraisers, cultural events, and roundtable discussions, and worked with nonprofits and volunteers on the ground. We were honored to take part in the program, which was hosted by Georgetown University McDonough School of Business, Baratta Center for Global Business - Georgetown McDonough, and Chemonics International. Attendees, both in-person and virtual, heard from esteemed guests including: Kateryna Yushchenko, Former First Lady of Ukraine, Tetyana Berezhna, Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Economy, Alex Tiersky, Senior Advisor for Ukraine Recovery at USAID, Trevor Gunn, Vice President for International Relations at Medtronic, Hanna Shuvalova and Oleksandr Gryban. The Nova Ukraine team, including Kateryna Kovalenko and Vlad Dergunov, also joined to contribute their perspectives and experiences. We were able to discuss plans for rebuilding and renovation and showcase our commitment to helping Ukraine recover. Our involvement in the forum highlighted the crucial role that nonprofits and the private sector play in rebuilding Ukraine, and the forum itself helped remind people that Ukraine’s future can and will be brighter than the present. Recently, I had the pleasure to speak at the US-Ukraine Reconstruction, Investment, and Innovation Forum held at Georgetown University McDonough School of Business, co host with Georgetown University Georgetown University Walsh School of Foreign Service and co-organized with Baratta Center for Global Business - Georgetown McDonough online on the invitation on behalf of the Chemonics-Georgetown University team. Together with Alex Tiersky, USAID Sr. Advisor for Ukraine recovery, and Jane Rhee ,U.S. International Development Finance Corporation chief of staff, we discussed the resilience of the Ukrainian economy and the current state of the labor market. I extend my deepest gratitude to the American nation for its unwavering support for Ukraine. The United States stands as a leader in defense and humanitarian aid, helping us remain resilient and move towards economic self-sufficiency 🇺🇸🤝🇺🇦 The Ukrainian economy grew by 4.1% in the first half of 2024, despite the challenges we have faced, according to preliminary estimates of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine. In June, growth was at 1.1% compared to June 2023, a bit slower than at the beginning of the year. The main factor slowing economic growth was electricity shortage. However, thanks to high adaptability of business, the economy continued to grow. Even amidst war, Ukraine remains open for business. Our private sector plays a vital role in reconstruction, and we're witnessing resilient inflows of foreign direct investment. We see growth potential in sectors like energy, agriculture, transportation, IT, and green metallurgy. Ukraine's human capital is a cornerstone of our resilience. The most important is to create conditions for the return of Ukrainians. We’re working on security, employment, housing, and social protection to encourage Ukrainians to return. This is what concerns people the most. This is what shapes our priority as a Government 🇺🇦 Together, we are building a sustainable future for Ukraine.
