Pleased to announce an update on Albany Bahamas after Kevin Miske visit last week!
Last week, I visited Albany Bahamas to see the cladding installation for Building 7 and the in-progress concrete work for Building 6. Both projects are designed as large-format GFRC rainscreen cladding. For instance, the hourglass panels on Building 7 have a surface area of about 440 SF. These panels have only four connections since at least 2 of every 4 connections are blind. Due to the location in a hurricane zone, we have followed our Miami-Dade NOA design to handle the +120 psf/-215 psf design values. This requires exceptionally robust framing and connections, increasing our panel weights to 30 lbs/SF. The challenge of installing these panels is further compounded by the radial nature of the panels and tight tolerances to the installed windows as shown in the image below. #BuildingBlocks #Albany #Facades #GFRC #UHPC

601 Washington Avenue, one of the first new-construction hotels in Miami’s historic South Beach, was a successful collaboration between Building Blocks and Morris Adjmi Architects in 2019. Our work on the design, fabrication, and installation of the GFRC façade has stood the test of time, demonstrating the enduring quality and resilience of our materials against the elements. 601 Washington Ave/Good Times Hotel is a hub of hospitality and urban excellence in this dynamic neighborhood. With its scalloped glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC) façade, this iconic building pays homage to the neighborhood’s Art Deco landmarks while introducing a fresh, contemporary design to the landscape. Join us as we embark on this journey of innovation and excellence as Building Blocks Facades continues to deliver GFRC and UHPC facades to the South Florida market.
