When José fled violence, he knew education was the path forward in the U.S. With the support of his foster mom, he graduated from high school, studied criminal justice in college, and is pursuing a career in law enforcement. José describes what family looks like for him, including those "who are complete strangers to you who just welcome you at their home." For refugees fleeing danger, the resettlement process can be extremely challenging. That’s why we collaborate with volunteers, churches, schools, and service providers to ensure refugees thrive. The city of Memphis 🤝 refugees and immmigrants Members from our Tennessee offices were proud to represent Bethany Christian Services at the Quarterly Consultation in Memphis last week. At the meeting, a representative from the mayor’s office presented a proclamation identifying Memphis as a welcoming city for refugees and immigrants. Refugees deserve to be safe, loved, and connected. Learn more about how you can help refugees and immigrants in your community this #WorldRefugeeMonth: https://lnkd.in/grnxfdkZ

You don’t need to overcomplicate getting started in the work of welcome. “The first thing is to build a relationship,” says Andrew Mead, pastor at Church of the Servant. “Be a welcoming person and ask someone their name. Listen to their story and create a human connection.” At Bethany, we collaborate with others to provide essential support to refugees and show the love and compassion of Jesus. There are many opportunities to partner with us in this work the Church is called to. Learn more about how you and your church can help refugees in your community: https://lnkd.in/gqGh-e_H

This World Refugee Day, we're inspired by churches like Church of the Servant. One way they love God is by loving their neighbors—particularly neighbors new to the U.S.—through their ministry with refugees. Over decades, they've helped hundreds of families navigate new lives. This World Refugee Month, your church can answer the call too. Read more about how you can extend Christlike welcome to new refugee neighbors: https://lnkd.in/ef-PaP5A

Thank you to the FOX 17 : WXMI TV Morning Mix for hosting us to talk about the Upcycle Bikes Ride Team and our participation in the GR Gran Fondo on June 22nd. We currently have over 30 participants on the Ride Team from several of our amazing distribution partners, including Bethany Christian Services, Guiding Light, The SOURCE, Ukrainian Society of Michigan (UASMI), and Community Rebuilders. We're also so thankful for our amazing Ride Team sponsors: KeyBank, Savvy Sliders, and Tris4Health. Together we will bring greater awareness to the large transportation need in and around Grand Rapids. A bike provides independence and opportunity to financially constrained individuals seeking greater stability in their lives. Plus, it's just fun to work on bikes and to see the joy, gratitude, and relief they provide to riders across our region. We love what we do! Come cheer for us at the Gran Fondo, consider volunteering some time in our shop, or make a donation and become a part of the mission! https://lnkd.in/eaEY4iVD

Happy #FathersDay. Today, we’re giving a big shout-out to all the fathers and father figures changing lives, shaping generations, and leading families. Fathers and father figures provide the foundations children need to grow and thrive. They teach how the world works, how to give, how to treat others, and what kind of treatment to expect in return. The work they do every day is essential and has a lasting impact. Consider thanking them with a gift in their honor this Father’s Day. A gift that will protect children, empower youth, and strengthen families: https://lnkd.in/gbSVqeiG
