BHP Foundation
Philanthropic Fundraising Services
Driving transformational and sustainable change through collaboration and innovation.
About us
The BHP Foundation works to address some of the world’s most critical sustainable development challenges. We are a charitable foundation funded by BHP and through our programs we address challenges that are directly relevant to the resources sector. To contribute to the scale of change required to make a systemic difference to the challenges the world is facing, innovation and collaboration sit at the heart of our model. We invest in potential game-changing projects, which if successful, can drive transformational change, and we collaborate by building cross sector partnerships, bringing together the combined expertise of industry, civil society, governments and international institutions. We do this because we recognize no one sector or organization can achieve the scale of change required. Across our portfolio we focus on three global issues where we believe we can have the greatest impact - the governance of natural resources, environmental resilience and equity in education. We complement these with country programs in Australia, Canada, Chile and the United States where we aim to improve long-term economic, social and environmental sustainability at a national level.

🎉We're celebrating Great Barrier Reef Foundation's inclusion in The Audacious Project's new cohort of projects for 2024 🌊🐟
Introducing Great Barrier Reef Foundation 🌊 Without action, 90% of the world’s coral reefs will die by 2050. The Great Barrier Reef Foundation is pioneering large-scale coral restoration using advanced technology, to protect and restore these vital ecosystems. By 2031, they will restore 50 vital reefs across Australia and the Pacific, planting 1.2 million heat-tolerant corals each year — 30 times the current rate. 🔗 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eqnWpfYf

Meet Agnes 👋 Agnes fell in love with astronomy in Kenya while stargazing with her dad. She’s one of 25 students from around Australia selected to take their interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) further. 📡 The jobs of the future, in a digital world, will demand 21st century skills such as curiosity, problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, innovation, teamwork, and communication. These skills go hand in hand with science, technology, engineering and mathematics. But not all students have access to and understanding of what STEM looks like in the real world. That’s why CSIRO has designed the STEM Together program to help underrepresented students build skillsets for the future in Australia. ✨ 🔭Learn how the program is helping students strengthen their confidence, capability, and connection with STEM: https://lnkd.in/gFKj42sG 🤝 STEM Together is powered by CSIRO and BHP Foundation.

💥Meet the changemakers: the Great Barrier Reef Foundation! 🐟 The Great Barrier Reef Foundation works to ensure the future of world’s coral reefs by protecting ocean habitats, restoring coral reefs and helping them adapt to the impacts of climate change. Why is their work needed? In 1998, the first mass coral bleaching event devastated the Great Barrier Reef, killing one in 12 of the world’s corals. To date, climate change has wiped out half the world’s coral reefs. 💡 In line with the challenges facing reef ecosystems and communities, the Great Barrier Reef Foundation established the Resilient Reefs Initiative, a different approach to business-as-usual planning. 📘 Learn more about Great Barrier Reef Foundation and its impressive work in delivering integrated reef and community resilience planning, at scale: https://lnkd.in/gn8xQhnG 🤝 Resilient Reefs is a collaboration with UNESCO, The Nature Conservancy’s Reef Resilience Network, Columbia Climate School, Resilient Cities Catalyst, AECOM and Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP). The changemaker series highlights the organizations, supported by BHP Foundation, that work on building solutions to complex social and environmental challenges.

"We can't do it alone"- a message shared earlier today in Chile and one that resonates with us and many others working together to solve complex sustainability challenges around the world. It's why we're so grateful to support Efecto Colectivo (the Collective Effect) in Chile. It, in itself, is an alliance of many organizations determined to transform the public education system so that young people learn essential 21st century skills. 💻 And today in Chile, the Collective Effect alliance organizations signed a collaboration agreement with the Public Education Directorate department of the Ministry of Educación. The agreement to strengthen public-private collaboration in public education was announced at an event discussing how effective and sustainable collaboration between civil society and the state can strengthen key learning for today and the future. 🤝 It's an important step that the BHP Foundation is proud to be part of. Our thanks to REimagina Fundación who drive the #EfectoColectivo initiative, with the support of BHP Foundation and the sponsorship of UNESCO and Dirección de Educación Pública. ✨
-------------- I am proud to announce that this morning, a collaboration agreement was signed between the eight projects that make up Efecto Colectivo (an initiative by BHP Foundation and Fundación Reimagina) and the Directorate of Public Education. At the Museo de la Educación Gabriela Mistral, various voices highlighted the importance of public-private collaboration, as well as radical cooperation among the different projects involved in Efecto Colectivo.
