Big smiles from everyone at Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Inland Northwest! 😁 Still coming off the rush of joy I felt at this year’s Family Picnic on Thursday! Not even the heat could keep us from having a blast with Bigs, Littles, family members, and friends. Words can’t describe how much this event was a testament to the power of mentorship and the importance it plays in the lives of our community’s youth, but I feel like these pictures I captured say it all! From games, to food, and even some crafts, there was fun being had everywhere you looked. THIS is what BBBS is all about!! 💚 Although there were many matches at the picnic, there were also Littles from our waitlist. I spoke with some that have been waiting for 3 years. The disappointment in their voice was evident, as their hope for a mentor in their life is strong, but they were grateful to be attending a community event that gave them hope for being matched one day soon. Step up and #BeBig so they don’t have to wait much longer!💫 Being a Big is not only rewarding, it’s also incredibly fun! Matches I spoke with talked about their adventures going hiking, fishing, painting, skiing, learning to drive, and so much more. Being a Big also doesn’t have to be a financial burden, our Match Support Specialists provide matches with activity kits centered around a Little’s interests!🙌 The smiles on their faces say it all. Tonight we had our Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Inland Northwest Annual Picnic. Over 120 Bigs, Littles and their families attended. Tonight I saw kids laughing, trying new games, making new friends. Tonight I saw magic too. I saw a kid who has been on our waitlist for almost two years meet his Big. This kid needed a very special person to be his Big. Someone with an understanding of Autism and a desire to be that person a kid could count on. A mom cried tonight when she gave me a hug because we finally found a match for her kid. We have 40 kids on our waitlist. It takes Little to be Big. Just 2-4 hours of your time, 2-4 times a month to change a kid’s life. Young adults to retired empty nesters and everyone in between can be a Big.
