About us
BioBuilder is a US-based nonprofit organization, which aims to increase interest, understanding and engagement STEM fields by transforming cutting-edge research projects in bioengineering into teachable modules that students and teachers can investigate together. Federal TIN: 45-3844761 Our curriculum takes a comprehensive approach to the field of synthetic biology, providing exceptional programming for students and educators alike. For students, we offer the chance to integrate biology and engineering through practical, hands-on lessons and BioBuilderClub activities. Our workforce development program offers students from traditionally under-represented populations the opportunity for laboratory and professional skills training in bioengineering, in pursuit of an internship in the life sciences. For educators, we offer opportunities for relevant professional development that fosters new methods of teaching designed to engage and inspire the young scientists in their classrooms.

Very proud to say that we have been recognized as a winner for Boston Business Journal’s BostInno Fire Awards! They cited our work with #biotech companies and teachers in the Boston community to help to bridge the gap in STEM education. This year, our work has accelerated with the launch of #BioTechBuilder, which prepares students for micro-credentialing so that they can choose to enter the workforce after high school graduation. We're on track to grow the future with a highly skilled life science workforce - the sort that industry needs to solve some of the world’s greatest challenges with science. Our new off-the-shelf curriculum is ready to integrate into the classroom so we can #educate a future-ready workforce. It is truly wonderful to be recognized with this award for our impact on the Boston community. Congratulations to all of #FireAwards winners! https://lnkd.in/eCw7utud

And a Best of STEM award goes to... US! BioBuilder Educational Foundation has been selected as a winner for Catapult X, LLC’s Best of STEM awards in the Career & Technical Education category! This win showcases the impact of the new #BioTechBuilder program that works to address the skills gap for young learners interested in #biotech careers by making hands-on, experiential learning opportunities more accessible. Our work with Carolina Biological Supply Company and Bioscience Core Skills Institute (BCSI) has resulted in a full-package that can be implemented in classrooms across the country. As judge Lance Brand shared, “BioTechBuilder has truly set a new standard in biotechnology education with its hands-on curriculum focused on skill-building, perfectly aligned with the needs of the biotech industry.” Thank you to all who made #BioTechBuilder a reality, and congratulations to our fellow #STEM winners! https://lnkd.in/eFyc6FeY

At #BioBuilder, we want to solve some of the world’s greatest challenges with life #science. To make that happen we work to ensure that students have the interest, knowledge, and skills to enter the #biotech workforce with confidence. We've always taken aim at what we see as the root cause of the issue, and we work hard to re-engage students who are in the classroom with hands-on learning opportunities in #STEM. The approach not only excites students about careers in the sciences, but reinvigorates great teachers and helps meet the future needs of the biotech industry by ensuring that they have a skilled talent pool. Founder and Executive Director Natalie Kuldell shared some of her thoughts on the power of giving first chances for students who are in biology classrooms today. Read some of her thoughts in the The Education Magazine article https://lnkd.in/es6mxjit

Not every student’s path takes them to a college education. At #BioBulider, we work to provide students with hands-on opportunities for “stackable” learning experiences to build up their knowledge and practical application of science when entering the workforce. Founder and executive director Natalie Kuldell and Angela Consani, CEO and co-founder at Bioscience Core Skills Institute (BCSI), recently joined Tristan Free on the BioTechniques podcast for a conversation about how #BioBuilder and #BCSI are bringing hands-on experiences in #STEM education to young learners who are passionate about the sciences. Programs like #BioTechBuilder ensure that students have both the tools and the credentials they need to be successful in their careers while simultaneously supporting the #biotech workforce pipeline. Listen to the episode to learn more about how these programs open doors in the #biotech community for those whose path does not lead them to a college education. https://lnkd.in/dVdNQREx

Alumna Angel Waruinge-Muthemba recently spoke with the Revere Journal about how #BioBuilder helped her make the decision to pursue a career in #STEM. Angel shared “I found lab math to be overwhelming — I wasn’t confident in myself. Dr. Natalie Kuldell along with Kate Bacon Schneider single handedly gave me the reassurance and confidence I needed to succeed through the program. By the end of my time at BioBuilder, I secured a full-time internship with a biotech startup in Cambridge. I remember thinking to myself “Wow, I think I’m actually becoming a scientist.”” Here's the link to read more about Angel and how BioBuilder is supporting talented and ambitious students like her on their paths to becoming future biotech innovators https://lnkd.in/evMNjj2v Thanks to program sponsors including Massachusetts Life Sciences Center UCB Massachusetts Biomedical Initiatives (MBI) and Ginkgo Bioworks, Inc.

I'm very excited to announce that I've been awarded the Christian A. Herter Memorial Scholarship! Founded in 1972, this scholarship supports students who have overcome catastrophic challenges and still reached success both academically and extracurricularly. As a recipient, I'll receive funding covering up to 50% of my financial need at the college of my choice. I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity and look forward to pursuing my academic and career goals with the support of the Christian A. Herter Memorial Scholarship Program. Firstly, I want to thank Lorena Marte from Boston Higher Education Resource Center (HERC) for nominating me and giving me this amazing opportunity. Her support was instrumental to this process. I also want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Natalie Kuldell from BioBuilder Educational Foundation for not only introducing me to the field of synthetic biology, but also providing incredibly valuable feedback to my current projects. I additionally want to thank Hailey Lenn Gordon, director of STEM Pathways, for introducing me to iGEM, which led to me being being a part of the first Boston high school iGEM team. Through this experience, I was able to apply the skills and knowledge I gained during my Boston University research internship with Arun Nambiar, which played a crucial role in my story and selection into this scholarship. Thank you all for being a part of my journey! I'm excited to share my educational milestone!

Kids are natural scientists according to Natalie Kuldell. Find out why nurturing this natural interest in all things scientific could be the key to solving the laboratorian shortage long term and defeat the anti-science mindset infecting our country to boot.
In this episode of Clinical Lab Chat, CLP’s Chris Wolski discusses the hows and whys of keeping kids engaged in science with Natalie Kuldell, executive director of BioBuilder, a non-profit designed to inspire kids and help teachers and professionals keep students interested in science in school and beyond. Is this THE recipe? What a great question! Founder and Executive Director, Natalie Kuldell spoke with Chris Wolski on the Clinical Lab Chats podcast about how we can keep students interested in #STEM. At #BioBuilder, we work to help educate young learners in STEM with accessible and hands on opportunities. This education will be key to supporting the future #STEM workforce, specifically in our laboratories. The episode is here https://bit.ly/3W1GW6n Not mentioned but many thoughts about how this works with John Liu and Julie Diop and Jeff Dieffenbach who are defining and researching the recipe to attract more people into (bio)manufacturing technologists roles.
