The Purdue Innovates Incubator is supporting Purdue University researchers in bringing their lab innovations to the marketplace, thanks to funding from the Trask Innovation Fund. A total of $175,000 has been awarded to four short-term projects to further develop innovations in cancer therapeutics, cellular manipulation, and superabsorbent materials. “These challenges include a technology becoming obsolete or an inventor feeling dispirited because of a lack of progress,” said Matt Dressler, Funds Manager for the Incubator. “Trask funding can address those challenges as Purdue faculty develop a discovery into a viable marketplace product. The fund complements several other Purdue Innovates resources provided to university inventors and entrepreneurs.” Congratulations to Andrea Kasinski, Senay Simsek, Yoon Yeo, and Jesse (Chi) Zhang on receiving the Spring 2024 round of funding! Full story: https://bit.ly/3YikFE9 The application deadline for the next round of funding is September 27. The National Library of Medicine (NLM) has awarded Regenstrief Institute, Inc. a five-year, $5 million contract extension to ensure the continued maintenance, expansion and public distribution of LOINC® (Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes), a global standard for health terminology. The terminology creates a common language for healthcare data, enabling a seamless exchange of information for better care, research and outcomes management. The initial contract was issued in 1999 to support the creation and development of LOINC, and with this extension, NLM’s commitment to LOINC will reach 30 years by the time the award expires in 2029. #healthcare #research #infoexchange #healthcaredata #data #indiana #lifesciences

Indiana's Heartland BioWorks was one of 12 regional hubs selected by the United States Department of Commerce as a designated "tech hub". The state is slated to receive $51 million to help Indiana continue punching above its weight. Senator Todd Young explores what the Tech Hub designation could mean for our advanced industries, including biotech, medtech, and the entire life sciences and manufacturing landscape in the The Indianapolis Star. #indiana #medtech #biotech #techhub #funding #lifesciences #tech #advancedmanufacturing
Read my column in The Indianapolis Star on how Indiana’s new tech hub, with support from the CHIPS and Science Act I co-wrote, will help America compete with the Chinese Communist Party on emerging tech. Scientific advancement is happening all over the country. And Indiana, in particular, is punching way above its weight when it comes to this innovative work. Our research institutions (like Purdue University, Indiana University Bloomington, and the University of Notre Dame), our private companies (Eli Lilly and Company, Corteva Agriscience, Elanco to name a few), and even our nonprofit ecosystem (AgriNovus Indiana, ARI (Applied Research Institute), and BioCrossroads) are all aligned toward creating high-paying jobs in the field of biotechnology and life sciences — the types of jobs that will give young Hoosiers exciting career options right here at home. Earlier this month, the Department of Commerce funded 12 regional “tech hubs” as part of a program our legislation created. This was an intense competition. There were 370 applicants from across the country. Indiana’s Heartland BioWorks received the largest award in the country — $51 million. That $51 million will open the floodgates of private investment in the Hoosier State. The best estimates say it will spur $2.6 billion in additional economic output and create 9,000 new jobs over a decade. Read more below.
