We remind ourselves everyday as to “why we do, what we do” at BioLife Solutions. A good example of this “why” is the story behind the Emily Whitehead Foundation. Emily was a five-year-old child with leukemia, whose standard chemotherapy treatments did not work effectively. With no remaining options for survival, Emily became the world's first pediatric patient to receive a CAR-T (chimeric antigen receptor t-cell) experimental cell therapy in 2012. The success of the treatment was monumental. Emily is now 12+ years cancer free. Emily, her parents and the Foundation are an inspiration to our team and to the progress of the cell and gene therapy field. As you may remember during the COVID-19 pandemic, logistical issues such as flight delays, travel bans, and supply chain disruptions made it difficult to deliver fresh donor samples. This jeopardized many patient graft transplantations, cell therapy treatments and infusions. Cryopreservation of cell-based products offers a safe and reliable alternative, when fresh samples are not available or very complex to obtain. Our NEW blog post explores the key benefits of shifting to cryopreserving cell-based products. Some life science organizations have continued to use cryopreservation long after the height of the pandemic. We think this adoption will continue to rise. What do you think? While it’s the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we also want to highlight the importance of breast cancer research. We are very thankful to all breast cancer patients who consent to donating biological material samples for future research. This research could lead to improved and expanded treatment options and one day a cure for multiple types of breast cancer. BioIVT offers scientists isolated Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells (PBMCs) from whole blood that were sourced from patients with clinically diagnosed breast cancer. This cell line and others are cryopreserved in our CryoStor® CS10 freeze media for optimal cell viability, density and recovery. BioIVT Research-grade Human Breast Cancer PBMCs: https://lnkd.in/g6N5AJsA If you need cryopreservation tips for a certain cell line, ask the BioLife scientific team: https://lnkd.in/ethJXgbe

Our facility in Indianapolis recently opened its doors to our customers. The event was a tremendous success, thanks to the incredible efforts of our team and attendees. We were more than happy to offer a unique opportunity for guests to meet our representatives and gain a first-hand look at our high-tech facility. Key highlights of the day included an insightful speaking session from Alex Guite. This was followed by an engaging packing roadshow that demonstrated the DV10 packaging, essential for transporting cell and gene therapies, as well as the innovative Cocoon solution. Special thanks to our World Courier team members Ben Scott, Melissa Moradian, Matt Covele, and Edwin Jacom for their dedication and hard work in making this event a resounding success.

Since 2017, over 30,000 patients in the U.S. with blood cancers have been treated with FDA-approved chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cell therapies. Optimizing biopreservation and cell processing protocols has helped realize the broad potential for this novel type of cell-based therapy. BioLife’s freeze media and our cryogenic containers are used in multiple FDA-approved CAR-T therapies, such as Abecma®, Breyanzi® and Tecartus®. Please let us know how we can help refine your CAR-T development and processes: https://lnkd.in/etbXxcEM #CART #tcell #celltherapy #bloodcancer #cellprocessing
