Bringing new life to by-products

About us

The BPA co-funds and undertakes research and development projects with companies by using the expertise at its partner organisations (AgResearch, Scion, Plant & Food Research and Callaghan Innovation), as well as universities. Its goal is to generate additional revenue for New Zealand by working with the primary sector to get better value out of biological by-products, including those from forestry, marine, agricultural, horticultural, animal and microbiological streams. The BPA is funded by The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE).

    Bioprocess Engineer at Scion

What a great week! I presented at my first conference. I shared the journey of figuring out how to ensure hydrogen fermentation can be done safely at laboratory scale using risk assessment tools from industry. It was a big collaborative process at Scion. Thank you to the The Bioprocessing Network for giving me the opportunity to share what we are doing at Scion in Gas Fermentation.

The legacy that the BPA has established since its inception more than a decade ago is due to Garth’s guidance and foresight, and its value is acknowledged by a wealth of businesses and researchers in primary industry throughout the country.
