I had the privilege of curating the marketplace for the U.S. Bank Racial Equity in Finance reception, held at the fantastic Alta West Adams in LA. I handpicked four exceptional beauty founders who have been incredible friends and supporters of Black Beauty Collective (BBC). This event provided an invaluable platform for these founders to connect with potential investors and financial leaders, amplifying their brand visibility and growth opportunities. Essence Communications Inc. Magazine was a household fixture when I was growing up. I’d read it cover to cover, dreaming of one day being one of those fabulously brilliant Black women in its pages. When I began modeling, I told my agent at Select Model Management that landing a campaign with Essence was my ultimate dream. This was over 14 years ago, a dream long forgotten. I never imagined, I’d end up in the magazine not as a model, but as a business thought leader. I am beyond grateful to share this with everyone. Recognizing many stores don’t stock products suitable for Black women like herself, Leslie Roberson didn’t just fill a need in the marketplace when she launched the Black Beauty Collective (BBC) last year, she created a movement. This week, we're proud to highlight the Black Beauty Collective in IRMA's new "𝐖𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥" campaign showcasing the retailers who make Illinois work. Located in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood, the Black Beauty Collective offers a wide range of beauty products with melanted skin in mind, along with bath and body items, candles, greeting cards, and wellness accessories. But Leslie’s retail store is more than a place to buy beauty products; it provides Black entrepreneurs a space to showcase and grow their brands.
