Huge congratulations to the many advocates who fought to raise awareness of and change the state law that required MassHealth to seek reimbursement for Medicaid expenses from the estates of people who received coverage. Few people were aware that Massachusetts policy was much more aggressive than the federal rules required and that the "cost per estate could total hundreds of thousands of dollars, effectively draining the estates of many families." Tireless work from many advocacy organizations--alongside the seniors and people with disabilities who were most impacted--resulted in a new law that exempts CommonHealth members from estate recovery and restricts the state to conducting estate recovery only for long-term care expenses, aligned with the federal minimum requirements. https://lnkd.in/e2f3uFeM

This is a great primer on what the behavioral roadmap is, what we’ve accomplished in the first year, and what is to come. I’m so proud to be a part of this amazing work!
When MA began implementation of the Behavioral Health Roadmap last year, the goal was to simplify access and entry to the state’s outpatient behavioral health care system for all Massachusetts residents. How is it going so far? Where have we seen success and where have early challenges appeared? Our latest report aims to answer these questions and offer solutions that will help advance and maintain a successful initiative. https://lnkd.in/euPVVmyj We are also hosting a webinar to review the report's findings on Sept. 11, 2024 at 1pm.
