When disasters strike, access to health care becomes even more critical. After Hurricane Helene, we acted quickly to support the Western part of our state – allowing early prescription refills, expanding mental health resources, and contributing more than $3 million toward recovery efforts. We’re committed to being there for our members, employees, and communities as we navigate the challenges ahead on the long road to recovery, together. https://lnkd.in/ekuna5mC

According to the CDC, 1 in 5 high school students have suicidal thoughts — a trend that has continued to tick up. It touches every corner of our state and requires all of us to come together, with creative solutions to make a change. On Monday, we joined CaroNova and partners from across North Carolina to lead change through bold, strategic efforts to reshape how young people and their families access mental health care in our state. "We know the problem. Now it's about driving toward action." Kelly Calabria, Chief Communications, Marketing and CSR Officer at Blue Cross NC. https://lnkd.in/dpZcCfcS

Heather is the type of neighbor you’d want in a crisis. Active in her community, she’s a volunteer high school basketball coach, a registered dietitian teaching nutrition classes at Appalachian State, and she’s a regional liaison on our team, representing Western NC. So, it’s fair to say that even before Hurricane Helene hit her part of the state, she had her hands full. But if you know Heather, you know she’s the type of person who is going to do whatever it takes to help a neighbor in times of need. Even if it means taking in six extra goats.
