Empowering leaders and innovators to overcome ocean conservation challenges in China, Asia-Pacific, and around the world
About us
Our ocean generates the air we breathe, provides the food we eat, and regulates the climate for the earth, but it is at risk. Among all the different ways to save our ocean, we focus on the people, specifically the emerging leaders in non-profits and social enterprises. In our program, we call them the Blue Pioneers. We help the Blue Pioneers expand their capacity for complex problem-solving and leading in challenging environments. The Blue Pioneers Accelerator Program has two cornerstone programs : Raw Case Studies and Collaborative Experiments, delivered through two weeks of in-person classes, field trips, and networking events in the Bay Area of California to share knowledge and experiences with each other and the inspiring practitioners and academics from leading organizations in Silicon Valley and Central Coast California. Program participants will also become part of the growing global Blue Pioneers network with over 100 members now.

Check out this SeafoodSource article that highlights how our ocean grantmaking centers the communities who depend most on a healthy ocean and engages them in developing and implementing solutions.
These are important commitments from The David and Lucile Packard Foundation. They reflect what we also understand at the Monterey Bay Aquarium: The ocean can flourish only when people thrive in a just and equitable world. As Meg Caldwell puts it so well in the article, "We’re able to achieve more equitable and durable outcomes if we are centering people who are most directly affected in the process.” Engaging communities in shaping solutions also drives the Aquarium’s global conservation work. From our Seafood Watch ratings – which assess the environmental performance of fisheries and aquaculture – to our partnerships with governments, industry groups, and NGOs across the globe, we are working to identify and address what needs to change in fisheries and aquaculture to benefit communities and maintain a healthy ocean. That includes ensuring communities have a voice in the solutions that affect their lives and livelihoods. https://lnkd.in/gTkZ3qRZ #SustainableSeafood #equity #CommunityEngagement #partnerships #justice #OceanHealth #CommunityLed #LiberatoryDesign
