Domestic violence is everywhere, but it’s not inevitable. It can be healed and prevented, and we all have a role to play. To change how society views domestic violence, we first need to change how it’s reported. Too often, media coverage sensationalizes high-profile cases, causing harm and overlooking the broader issue. But journalists have the power to shift this narrative. Solutions-based reporting can protect survivors, elevate solutions, and help end domestic violence. Learn more about how journalists and communities are working together through the new Journalist Playbook and let’s change the conversation together. #JournalistPlaybook #LetsEndDV #ChangeTheConversation #DVAM2024 https://lnkd.in/dqkBpYme

A collaborative of the San Diego Refugee Communities Coalition, San Diego Wellness Center, License to Freedom, Majdal Center, United Women of East Africa Support Team - UWEAST, and other partners, the “Health Through Housing” initiative helps newly arrived refugees navigate multiple challenging systems -- #housing, #MediCal, #resettlement and more -- to build a foundation for health, safety, and stability. Last week we visited the #WhiteHouse to celebrate 30 years of the Violence Against Women Act (#VAWA). This landmark legistlation has made significant contributions to the safety of women in this country and has grown to generate important initiatives to support survivors of domestic violence. We were thrilled to be present with many of our partners leading domestic violence prevention work here in California and we're grateful every day for the tireless work of our grantees to promote healing in communities and prevent violence for future generations. We got to celebrate and reflect on this journey and honor the dedicated advocates that have gotten us to this far, and we left feeling hopeful for the future. Thank you to all our partners in this work to end domestic violence.
