Elycia is making history as the first Black woman to lead the organization, and through her dedication to mentorship, she’s helping to empower young people across the state, fostering a stronger community and a brighter future. Her impactful leadership has earned her a recent appointment by Governor Jared Polis to the State of Colorado’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Advisory Council. This week, our Denver team took the afternoon to volunteer with our nonprofit partner, Chill Foundation, teaching youth from our community to snowboard. While it’s always exciting to get on the mountain mid-week, this was not an ordinary day on the slopes: 🏂💡We talked about pathways into the Outdoor Industry and Innovation. On the bus ride to Loveland Ski Area, we even had a chance to dive into a fun exercise designing boot configurations—proof that learning can happen anywhere!  💪🏔️ At Loveland, the mountain was a backdrop for subjects like Pride, Determination, and Courage. Learning a new skill like snowboarding takes all of these qualities and more! 🤝🌟 For the amazing youth Chill serves, this experience wasn’t just about learning a new skill—it was about building confidence, joy, and connection. The growth and appreciation we saw from everyone reminded us that change doesn’t happen overnight. It takes a strong community, deep commitment, and collaboration A huge thank you to Chill for their partnership and to the employees who volunteered their time to help broaden access to the Outdoors and careers in the Outdoor Industry. Out of numerous qualified nominations, Shawn is now in the final 3. The Awards celebrate leaders who have a positive impact on the community. Shawn was nominated because of his decades-long and multi-faceted support of Big Brothers Big Sisters, but also because of his ongoing philanthropic and Community support, which includes support of BOA’s own Community Program, and many non-profits including Denver Scholarship Foundation, Chill Foundation, and more.
