The metal process involves artisans carefully sanding the surface with multiple grits, progressively removing scratches with each pass. Then, they repeat the process with different polishing compounds until achieving the desired mirror-like finish. While time-intensive on flat surfaces, it demands greater attention to detail when working on unique forms like this stunning Lynda Benglis piece. 📸: @dvmariot

PATINA: Typically the final stage before getting shipped, patina is where the application of chemicals oxidizes the surface of the sculpture to create different colors and patterns. While typically done for the visual aesthetic, the patina can also act as a natural protective layer to the sculpture in addition to the wax seal. We offer a library of patinas and surface treatments to our artists, and many of these become personalized to the artist’s vision. 📸: @dvmariot, @theheadspaceofsipos https://lnkd.in/ekANrMuU

SAND MOLDS: Brad is prepping the hooks that are inserted during the sand mold process. These hooks made of rebar, serve the team as a way to flip the halves of sand molds using hoists to then complete the second side of the mold and eventually to fit the two pieces back together to then pour bronze into. This specific piece is of Misha Kahn's table series that he had worked on during his visit to Bollinger. Misha Kahn @mishakahn - "Kon Tiki", Aluminum, 34.25" x 53" x 13.25" Misha Kahn was born in Duluth, Minnesota in 1989. He graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2011 and was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Tel Aviv the following year. Working at the intersection of design and sculpture, Misha Kahn creates exuberant furniture that embraces color, maximalism, and gestural expression. With a highly experimental approach to media and process, the artist has incorporated craft and industrial materials into his pieces, as well as found objects. Misha Kahn is currently represented by Friedman Benda Gallery. 📸: @azdavin https://lnkd.in/emSiDD-h

Marlana Vassar - Flora - Bronze 48" h x 18.8" diameter Marlana Vassar is an African American artist and designer whose work has been featured in the @carnegiemuseumofart among other locations. A Pittsburgh area artist and University of Pittsburgh alum (2006), Marlana's Musings - Art Studio is largely self-taught as an artist and her philosophy of balancing style and substance has attracted a diverse audience to her work. Vassar began her career as a graphic designer with the intention to move into game design, however, after attending a lecture at the Carnegie Museum of Art her focus changed to the world of fine art. The first of Marlana's works in bronze, this sculpture required 103 artisan labor hours to produce at Bollinger Atelier. Marlana sculpted an original in clay and the clay original was 3d scanned to produce a digital 3d model. The digital 3d model was scaled to the final size for bronze casting and was 3d printed using a PMMA material provided by FORM.XYZ in Portland Oregon and designed specifically for investment and ceramic shell casting. "Flora" is located near the entrance of Highland Park, Pennsylvania among sculptures from Giuseppe Moretti. 📸: @dvmariot, @theheadspaceofsipos https://lnkd.in/e65uPitD
