BLA was fortunate to attend ribbon cutting ceremonies for two incredible Kane County Division of Transportation projects. Longmeadow Parkway officially opened to traffic at the end of August. This regionally transformative project consisted of a brand new 5.5-mile corridor extending from Huntley Road to IL 62 including a new bridge over the Fox River. BLA provided Phase III construction on Section A1 [Huntley Road to Randall Road], Phase II on Section B [just east of Randall Road to IL 31] and Phase II sub to Crawford, Murphy & Tilly on Section C [IL 31 to IL 25 including the new bridge over the Fox River]. BLA also led the Value Engineering study for the entire corridor, providing millions of dollars in savings to the $200 million project. The Dauberman Road Extension ribbon was cut October 1. BLA was a sub to Gannett Fleming/TranSystems providing Phase I and II for the $22 million project. This project provides a tremendous safety benefit for emergency responders, school buses and multimodal transportation users with two new grade separations across the BNSF railroad and US 30 while also alleviating congestion at nearby at-grade crossings. Our team is incredibly proud to have played a major role in the successful implementation of these two great transportation improvements!

BLA was chosen to receive an ACEC Indiana Merit Award for the design of Indianapolis DPW’s Fall Creek Trail Phase 2! This project connects 22.6 miles of the Fall Creek Greenway system all the way from Geist Reservoir to the northeast with downtown and five other urban trail networks (Grassy Creek, Monon, Central Canal Towpath, White River and Northtown). It also directly connects the historic Flanner House District and Watkins Park with Ensign Edward Graham Martin Park and the next phase of the Cultural Trail network at IUPUI. This challenging project included a new pedestrian bridge over Fall Creek which required considerable coordination with the US Army Corps of Engineers to avoid impacts to the levee network and natural resources below.

BLA, along with Morphey Construction, Indiana Department of Transportation and American Structurepoint, just wrapped up the final inspection of the SR 75 Slide Correction project just south of Jamestown – our first construction project as a prime consultant and PE/S in the Crawfordsville District. Because of a delay in procurement and our contractor’s notice to proceed, the project schedule now conflicted with another resurfacing project that was intended to succeed our own.  We worked with MCI, INDOT and the adjacent project led by RQAW | DCCM and wrapped up our work just days before the resurfacing work was completed behind us.  Really great example of teamwork, collaboration and communication to get the job done on time towards the end of the construction season. Great work Paul Cheron, EIT and everyone else involved!
