Book Harvest provides an abundance of books and ongoing literacy support to families.
About us
Book Harvest is a nonprofit organization that provides books and literacy support to children and families who need them in the Triangle region of North Carolina. Having plenty of books at home helps children start kindergarten ready to learn, combat summer learning loss once they are in school, and identify as readers. We believe that books are a vital tool to help all children succeed in school and in life. Our vision is of a community where every child, regardless of their family’s income, is growing up in a home rich with books.

It's the start of November, but at Book Harvest we're always thinking about summer! Summer matters to North Carolina children - a lot. And we have the chance to transform it from a time of inequity to a time of enrichments for all. For us, that means an abundance of books - and bringing the Books on Break experience to every child in our midst. We hope you'll take a minute to read this article authored by Book Harvest Director of Advocacy, Mary Mathew: https://lnkd.in/eiJwS52e Take action today by joining Book Harvest and the National Summer Learning Association in asking North Carolina Senators Budd and Tillis to co-sponsor and support The Summer for All Act (https://lnkd.in/e2fn8uBB). Thank you for all you do to support Book Harvest and lift up our kids!

Y'all are amazing! Are you headed to WNC? If you have the capacity and know people who need them, we invite you to stop by our Grab & Go Book Bins in Durham and load up on children's books. You can take as many books as you're able! We have empty boxes and bags if you need them. At Book Harvest we believe that literacy is one of the greatest civil rights issues of our time, and that solving any challenge our society faces begins with a foundation of literacy. But we can’t do it alone; collective action is needed to achieve our goal of literacy and justice for all. Which is why Book Harvest team members, Mary Mathew and Cheri Coleman, recently partnered with Safiyah Jackson, Chief Strategy Officer at the The North Carolina Partnership for Children (NCPC), to share this message and issue a call to action at the 2024 Color of Education Summit in Raleigh, North Carolina. Are you seeking books for your classroom, childcare center, or community? If you're in or near Durham, our Grab & Go Book Bins are your best option! They are filled with free children's books and you can take as many as you'd like. (Seriously! As many as you'd like!) The books in the Grab & Go bins are gently-used children's books that have some cosmetic flaws, but they are still perfectly usable. Visit our website to learn more https://lnkd.in/eVEFWxbe
