I enjoyed meeting Boohe, and I'm honored that he shared his story with us. Special shout-out to Bottle Tree Pictures, some of the first production connections I made after moving to Boston, and the perfect partners for this project. Talented storytellers? ✅ Local knowledge and experience shooting in South Africa? ✅ Flexible and responsive client service? ✅ Highly recommend.
When our patient, Boohe, met Dr. David Henderson, Chief of Psychiatry at BMC, he felt comforted by Dr. Henderson’s expertise in Liberian trauma because “he understands my culture and talks to me like he’s from my culture”. That cultural sensitivity is pivotal in advancing mental health care. The Africa Global Mental Health Institute, co-founded by Dr. Henderson and supported by BMC, fosters collaborations across more than 25 countries to create accessible training and education programs for providers to improve the mental health of people of African descent no matter where they are in the world. 2023 has been a great a year for documentary film making for us. We love all aspects of documentary production, from the human interest stories one learns when interviewing subjects, visual story telling through unique camera shots, small agile crews and “rolling with punches” production schedules. Back in March Dan Gruenpeter was brought on by the awesome folk at &FRIENDS in London to help produce the Boston location component of a 3 part mini-documentary series for Campari Academy. This opportunity also gave us the opportunity to meet and work with the awesome and talented team at Comfort Kitchen Boston in Dorchester, Boston. For the second time this year we had the opportunity to shoot another micro documentary in Cape Town, South Africa and this piece will showcase mental health across Africa. Here are some select broll stills from the shoot, all shot on the wonderful #SonyFx3 by my colleague on this project, the very talented DP Alex Lopez Locations: Bo-Kaap, Imizamo Yethu (Hout Bay), Khayelitsha, Lenteguer (Mitchell’s Plain) & Cape Point (Cape of Good Hope). If you are looking for anyone to produce your next project in South Africa, certainly reach out as I can easily have you covered! I do have some great industry partners down here & know some great shoot locations, especially in Cape Town that not only encapsulates South Africa, but can also emulate other parts of Africa & the world! 🎥 🎬 🇿🇦 #documentary #documentaryfilm #locations #locationscouting #InternationalFilmProduction
