About us
Boston Medical Center models a new kind of excellence in healthcare, where innovative and equitable care empowers all patients to thrive. We combine world-class clinicians and cutting-edge treatments with compassionate, quality care that extends beyond our walls. Together, we're reimagining healthcare for Boston - and the world. As an award-winning health equity leader, our diverse clinicians and staff interrogate racial disparities in care and partner with our community to dismantle systemic inequities. This commitment to equity is the basis of all our work, particularly as 70 percent of our patients are people of color. In addition, nearly 30 percent of our patients speak a primary language other than English, and so we offer all our care and services in over 160 languages, including Spanish, Haitian Creole, Cape Verdean Creole, and more. As an academic medical center, BMC is building the future of health care. Our world-renowned researchers currently oversee over 660 research projects in a wide variety of areas, and as the principal teaching affiliate of Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, BMC is devoted to training future generations of health care professionals. BMC's clinical expertise, commitment to equity, quality, and sustainability efforts have been consistently recognized by organizations across the country, including the federal government, American Nurses Credentialing Center (Magnet designation), U.S. News, Leapfrog, Human Rights Campaign, the Lown Institute, Becker’s Healthcare, and more. August is National Immunization Awareness Month! As we gear up for the new school year, don’t forget to check if your child’s vaccines are up to date, as it will help protect your child and those around them. Massachusetts law requires specific vaccinations for all children attending school. The recommended pediatrician visit frequency will change depending on your child's age. If your child hasn't had a recent visit according to recommendations, please contact your child's primary care provider to make an appointment. You can schedule a visit with BMC Pediatrics by calling 617-414-5946.

"When you look at people in recovery or birthing people who use substances, bias often comes before medical evidence. Our attempts are to really focus on the facts." A group of BMC experts have become catalysts for change by requesting the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine revise its guidelines to provide the necessary support breastfeeding parents with substance use disorder (SUD) and their infants deserve. BMC providers were then allowed to rewrite the guidelines themselves, in collaboration with Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). Learn more on #HealthCity: https://bit.ly/3XeFQGf

We are proud to spotlight our Division of Thoracic Surgery, recognized as high performing in lung surgery by U.S. News & World Report. Division Chief Dr. Laurence Brinckerhoff and thoracic surgeon Dr. Christopher Digesu are revolutionizing the surgical process for BMC patients by providing access to modern, high-end, minimally invasive thoracic surgical procedures. New robotic technology at BMC allows for more flexible movements which means the surgeon can operate through smaller incisions. This reduces the length of stay in post-operative care and allows patients to return to their lives quicker. Learn more on HealthCity: https://bit.ly/3YUvnRI #NationalSurgicalOncologistDay
