About us
Great Futures Start HERE. Our Mission: The mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington is to help boys and girls of all backgrounds, especially those who need us most, build confidence, develop character and acquire the skills needed to become productive, civic-minded, responsible adults. Company Overview: Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington was established in 1886 as the Newsboys and Children's Aid Society . In the early 1900's, the Working Boys Home and Aide Association replaced this organization and enlarged the scope of service to neighborhood boys. With the support of the Rotary Club of Washington, D.C., a board of trustees was established and the name changed to Boys Clubs of Washington. In 1973, Boys Clubs of Washington began serving girls as full and equal members. In July of 1981, Boys Clubs of Washington changed its name to Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington to reflect its new direction. Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington is now one of the largest affiliates of Boys & Girls Clubs of America with 18 Clubs, 1 outreach site, and 3 satellite sites over a 75-mile radius from Frederickburg, Virginia to Germantown, Maryland as well as a residential summer camp in Southern Maryland.

At our most recent Board of Governors meeting in Atlanta, we had the incredible honor of presenting Denzel Washington and Alex Rodriguez with their Alumni Hall of Fame Blue Jackets! 💙 The Blue Jacket is a symbol of their remarkable journey from Club kids to world-renowned leaders and role models, as well as their continued commitment to empowering the next generation. The Alumni Hall of Fame celebrates the achievements of former Club members who have made a lasting impact in their communities, inspiring today’s youth to dream big. Congratulations to Denzel and Alex for this well-deserved recognition! 👏 Our President and CEO, Jim Clark, was there to celebrate alongside them!

What an incredible evening we had at our event, Spinning into Action: An Evening of Giving Back, last week! 🎡 We’re thrilled to announce that, with your generous support, we raised a whopping $88,714 for the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington! Each contribution is already making a significant impact on our mission to create safe, innovative spaces for our youth to learn, grow, and thrive in the DC area. 🙌 But we're not quite done yet! We’re still just shy of our ambitious $100,000 goal. With your help, we can bridge that gap and ensure that countless kids in our community have the resources they need for a brighter future. 🌟 If you haven’t had a chance to contribute yet—or if you'd like to increase your impact—now is the perfect opportunity! All donations made through September 30th will be matched dollar for dollar by our CEO, Husein Sharaf. We're just $5k away from our goal, and once we hit that, Husein's match will take us across the finish line! 🚀 You can donate here➡️: https://lnkd.in/gz3P9s8e A huge thank you goes out to our amazing partners and vendors who made this event a resounding success. A special shoutout to Derek Lovato, ICAE at The Capital Wheel for providing the perfect venue, Bond 45 National Harbor and The Walrus for serving up delicious food that kept our guests energized, and Clarissa Villondo for beautifully capturing the evening's special moments. Your support made all the difference! We also want to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Engagement Specialist Christina Kelly for organizing such a successful event and to our dedicated #eliteforce volunteers. Your hard work and commitment truly made all the difference! 👏 Together, we can ensure that every child has the opportunity to succeed and reach their full potential. Thank you for your continued support, and let’s make a lasting difference together! 💙✨

🌟⚽️ Exciting Day at Jelleff! The Washington Spirit hosted a youth soccer clinic, welcoming around 30 young athletes from the community! 🙌 With hands-on training in dribbling, passing, and shooting, our goal was to inspire a love for the game while promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyles. Young players got to interact with professional athletes, gaining valuable mentorship and confidence on the field. Thanks to everyone who joined us! Let’s keep building a strong community together! 💪❤️ #WashingtonSpirit #YouthSoccer #Inspiration #CommunityEngagement

After four years, the gym at Clubhouse 6 of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington has reopened following significant repairs to the floor, which had been damaged by a flood. The new flooring provides a safe and functional space for various activities. At least 40 youth utilize the gym each day, and the recent parent engagement event marked a return to community activities. The new facility is expected to encourage higher participation rates during the school year and summer camp. With these improvements, Clubhouse 6 is well-equipped to serve its members, offering a dedicated space for play and engagement. #BGCGWStrong #GreatFuturesStartHere #BGCGW

It was a tremendous honor to be present at the Kennedy Center as Michele Kang and the Washington Spirit welcomed Magic Johnson to their ownership group. At Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington we understand firsthand how important it is to teach our young ladies about healthy lifestyles, and we know the important role sports plays in developing them as leaders. It’s good to know that we’re all working for similar causes. Now an owner of the Washington Commanders AND the Washington Spirit – Welcome to DC Magic!
