On #WorldMentalHealthDay, we recognize the importance of mental health for everyone, everywhere. And this year’s theme, "It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace," reminds us that fostering a supportive environment at work is essential for overall wellbeing. Whether through personal connection, community support, or professional resources, prioritizing #mentalhealth should be a collective effort. Let’s continue to have conversations and create spaces where care and support are always available.

This week I had the pleasure of presenting at Ai4 - Artificial Intelligence Conferences on crisis prediction using large language models, recently published with Matt Mohebbi, Erin O'Callaghan, Ph.D., and Mimi Winsberg, M.D.. Thanks to those who attended and for your engaging questions and enthusiasm! In the Ai4 Research Summit Track, it was great hearing about the impact of AI on other real world problems like “The Compute Powering AI Innovation” from Vijay Gadepally at MIT Lincoln Laboratory and to hear about the latest in TimeGPT-1 from Cristian Challu, Ph.D. at Nixtla. Reconnecting with former coworker Candy Zhang and attending the Women in AI reception to exchange ideas on where AI is headed was particularly rewarding. I’m excited to continue the momentum and keep pushing innovation with AI in upcoming projects at Brightside Health! #Ai4 #AI #LLM #Innovation

I'm pleased to share Brightside Health's latest research paper in JMIR Publications that looks at the role of #AI in #crisis #prediction among #behavioral #health patients. While use cases for AI in healthcare have grown, there has been limited research on using AI for the purpose of mental health crisis prediction. This peer-reviewed research analyzed data from 460 patients on the Brightside Health telehealth platform, including 260 patients who reported suicidal ideation with a plan to act on it, and 200 patients who did not endorse suicidal ideation. Using a simple prompt design Chat GPT-4 results approached those of trained clinicians in predicting suicidal crisis. Suicide is notoriously difficult to predict. This supports the notion that generative AI holds great promise for identifying patients at risk of #suicide and thus enabling the delivery of more timely care to those who need it most. Many thanks to my co-authors Christine Lee, PhD, Matt Mohebbi, and Erin O'Callaghan, Ph.D. as well as the expert clinicians who participated in the study.
