This week we are celebrating Bristol Bay Sockeye in Washington, D.C.! #BristolBaySalmonWeek is kicking things off, with a variety of exceptional restaurants across the District featuring unique Bristol Bay Sockeye dishes on their menus. Numerous retail parters are also hosting Bristol Bay Sockeye cooking demos at their D.C.-area locations to help share the sustainability story of Bristol Bay. In addition to this culinary celebration, salmon supporters from many organizations will gather in D.C. to advocate for Bristol Bay, as well as celebrate its fish, water, and people at the Wild Salmon Celebration, hosted by Bristol Bay Native Corporation.

On May 1st, Rep. Peltola (D-AK) introduced The Bristol Bay Protection Act — legislation that would codify the EPA’s 404(c) action vetoing the proposed Pebble Mine so that the safeguards could not be undone, except through a subsequent act of Congress. With more than a dozen large-scale mining threats in the region, this federal legislation is an important layer of protection for Bristol Bay. People from all across Alaska and the nation—including the United Tribes of Bristol Bay, village and Native corporations, dozens of NGOs and nonprofits, sportsmen, businesses, chefs, and of course, commercial fishermen—are united in support behind EPA’s Clean Water Act protections. We look forward to working with Congresswoman Peltola and other Bristol Bay champions in Congress to ensure its future is vibrant and free of the Pebble Mine. https://lnkd.in/g2PnbUvM

We are headed into 2024 with strong momentum from the past year’s marketing efforts. The marketing program continues to return substantial results, gaining close to 35% sales lift on retail promotions, and consistently partnering with over 3,000 retail stores in the domestic market. We are excited to welcome, Barry Collier, to advise on industry and global market initiatives. “The BBRSDA has had incredible success that much of the industry and even fishermen are not aware of,” Collier explains. “I look forward to not only bringing the established programs of the BBRSDA to light throughout the fleet and industry, but also helping gain back global markets in a time when it is needed the most."
