Last week, BCLP’s Black Women in Law (BWIL) network, in collaboration with the Black Men In Law Network, co-hosted the second annual BWIL panel event in London. It was a discursive and illuminating evening, showcasing the individuality of black professionals in an environment where they are often “one of the few” in the room.   The event began with an inspirational keynote speech from Christine Ohuruogu MBE a British former track and field athlete who holds Olympic, World, Commonwealth and European titles. This was followed by a panel discussion with an ensemble of prominent legal professionals and business services including, James Hanlon, Chief People Officer & General Counsel at Treatwell; Joan Scott, Senior Legal Counsel at Nissan; Ash Cooper, Chief Information Officer at Kingsley Napley; and Nnaemeka Ezeh, one of our Senior Associates.   This year’s Black History Month themed ‘Reclaiming Narratives’, panellists encouraged attendees to shape their own personal and professional stories. They highlighted the importance of self-compassion, celebrating differences, and transforming those narratives into empowerment.   At BCLP, an inclusive culture where all of our people can thrive is essential to our success. We are proud to work with our BWIL and BMIL networks, who remain committed to values of connection, visibility, and empowerment for the Black women and men who continue to blaze a trail in our profession.   #BlackLawyers #Diversity #Inclusion #DEI #BlackHistoryMonth

Over the past few years, the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the US Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division have set their sights on big tech. Understanding the precedents set by these suits is critical for clients operating in today’s online marketplaces, whether to understand enforcement risk or to respond when harmed by anticompetitive conduct.   In a new article, David B. Schwartz, Rebecca Nelson, Emilee Hargis, and Stephen Scannell examine a key decision by Judge Chun in the Western District of Washington in the FTC v. Amazon.com case — unsealed to the public on October 7, 2024 — which provides concrete examples of the widening breadth of FTC’s antitrust theories and the real-world impacts of Amazon’s sprawling pricing algorithms.    To read their full insight, please click the link below: https://lnkd.in/efmhqA5M   #Antitrust #Algorithms #Regulation

Our Partner Mark Richards has spoken with Partnerships Bulletin on the UK Government’s possible re-engagement of the PPP (public-private partnership) concept.   Mark notes that the handback of existing PFI (private finance initiative) assets could be an opportunity for the public and private sectors to look forward, finding possible new models and new areas for collaboration. However, the question of where the public sector will find the money to pay for on-going maintenance post-handover remains an important issue.   Read Mark’s full insights and more by clicking the link below:   https://lnkd.in/ex-QMWKc
