What an honor to interact with and be inspired by the many talented participants of the “Made in Hopewell" event this week, organized by the Hopewell Downtown Partnership. The engaging event served as a celebration of all things manufacturing, both big and small, in the Hopewell-Prince George area. The goal of the event was to generate awareness, transparency, pride, and new connections around the community’s advanced technical knowledge and locally made products. Our Alliance was proud to be in attendance and on multiple fronts — with representatives like Jim Pannucci, PhD and Vanessa Womack of Activation Capital pictured here. Also in attendance were representatives from Brightpoint Community College, Virginia State University, CCAM - Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing, and more! Together, we had an opportunity to discuss our collective efforts to create a reliable supply of safe, high-quality, and affordable medicines for all. We also had the chance to share information about the multi-jurisdictional public and private sector stakeholders in the region who are working together to define a new era in R&D, advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing, workforce development, and supply chain development.

A globally competitive ecosystem for manufacturing critically important medicines within the United States.
About us
The Alliance for Building Better Medicine accelerates the growth and success of the industry. In this way, we help firms and researchers reduce the cost of manufacturing pharmaceuticals by employing novel chemical and engineering innovations to improve the way critical medicines are made in the U.S. Leveraging continuous-flow and other advanced manufacturing technologies, we streamline the processes for creating high-quality generic medicines in the U.S. more quickly and less expensively, with significantly lower environmental impact. As an alliance, we power many facets working together to impact the region’s R&D, advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing, workforce development, and supply chain development. The result of our collaboration is clear. The innovation occurring as part of the Alliance’s mission is driving opportunities far beyond chemistry, engineering, and manufacturing systems and processes. Together, we’re creating the social and economic structures and systems for identifying and meeting the needs of all communities.

I am proud to be a part of this and other important work to secure the US supply chain for critical medicines with our partners at Phlow and the entire Alliance for Building Better Medicine. Public-private partnerships like this one need to continue to be at the heart of building a more resiliant, secure supply chain for medicines.
We are thrilled to start work on an interagency partnership to begin domestic manufacturing of critical ingredients for medical countermeasure drug products that support the joint force and its allies in counteracting chemical and biological threats with the Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense-JPEO-CBRND and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), HHS Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR). "We are pleased to partner with the JPEO-CBRND on this effort to further strengthen this critical infrastructure in the United States for civilians and soldiers alike," said Arlene Joyner, Deputy Assistant Secretary Director, Office of Industrial Base Management and Supply Chain HHS Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response We extend our deepest gratitude to ASPR's Office of Industrial Base Management and Supply Chain (IBMSC), U.S Senator Tim Kaine, U.S. Senator Mark Warner, and other esteemed congressional leaders for their unwavering support of Phlow's mission and this critical initiative, which is integral to the United States National Defense Strategy. This is truly a momentous occasion for the future healthcare of our warfighters as we work to provide a layered defense against threats. Read the full release: https://lnkd.in/e-4W9f78

Next in our series of impact videos features the Greater Richmond Partnership (GRP), a key member of the Alliance for Building Better Medicine. GRP serves as the lead regional economic development organization for the City of Richmond and the counties of Chesterfield, Hanover, and Henrico in Virginia. GRP significantly impacts the region by recruiting companies from around the globe, providing employment opportunities, and generating taxable capital investment for local communities. GRP offers no-cost site location assistance and other services to both domestic and international companies planning new or expanded facilities. In this mission-critical video highlighting GRP and its impact, we had the honor of interviewing Jennifer Wakefield, APR, President and CEO of Greater Richmond Partnership. "The role of the Greater Richmond Partnership is to recruit new companies to the market, which bring high paying jobs and capital investment into the region. During the pandemic, members of our coalition in Greater Richmond and Petersburg recognized that there was a critical shortage of essential medicines in the U.S. and the need to reshore the making of those medicines, and that is a key factor in what we are working on here in our market," shares Jennifer.
