🍽️ Bay Area Subscription Industry Dinner
What a fun evening! We partnered with our friends at J.P. Morgan to bring out CFOs + Payments Executives to one of my favorite spots - The Village Pub in Woodside (after bringing my Mom there for Mother's Day this year and getting the exceedingly rare stamp of approval, I knew we wouldn't go wrong with this choice ... and after a Jensen spotting, we felt reassured).
When I started Butter Payments 4+ years ago, half of the battle was convincing leaders that retention + churn mitigation mattered as much as acquisition + growth - and even within the group that was battling churn, solving payment failure was hardly seen as a pivotal driver of retention, let alone revenue growth.
The mood has certainly shifted and we're proud to have moved the market forward on the issue of accidental churn. It was an absolute blast to gather with a group of leaders who are aligned in unison on the importance of optimizing payments flows, mitigating churn, and driving retention and LTV:CAC uplift in 2024.
You better believe that we had a lot of fun talking about everything else as well. It felt like every topic was on the table - life, kids, pets, Kazakhstan and Belarus, the (apparently dangerous) halls of Los Gatos High, The US Open, Black Pistol Fire, momos in the East Bay, and inebriated holiday party yetis - among many others. This was a great group of people.
IRL events are always the best and I wanted to extend a massive thank you to everyone who joined our industry dinner last week.
First - very special shoutouts to our organizers from both Butter (Carol) and JPM (Chad Cochran, Jeff Sereno, Victor Castillo) who organized an amazing venue.
Second - to our attendees who we wish nothing but continued success: Yatin Mody of Postman, Sid Sanghvi of Asana, Peter A Krivkovich of Bitly, Bibek Bhattarai of PandaDoc, Valeriya (Valerie) Kondratova of Adobe, Roy Barak (Consultant but most importantly representative of Muttville Senior Dog Rescue), Christina Homburg of Marley Spoon, Rashi Maskara of IPSY, Karim Damji of Substack, Tom Fox of Malwarebytes, John Morris of Cyberhaven, Will Goldfarb of Doppler, Peter Chan of vidIQ, Shuting Zhang of Render, Tobias Wessels of Helm.ai, Eileen Treanor of LeoLabs, and Edward Fan of Clear Labs
Last but not least - to my Buttertons! Kevin Perko, Catherine Leon, Scott Powell, and Patrick Lutz (apparently I'm at my mention limit - LinkedIn, let me shout out the posse!)
Here's a terrible photo ... because we are about living in the moment, not phones! We do these frequently ... so see you at the next one? (NYC we're coming back!)
