A specific area of society that is being significantly affected by the legalization of marijuana is the workplace. How? Consider some of the short-term effects of using marijuana such as altered sense of time, changes in mood, impaired body movement, difficulty with thinking and problem solving, and impaired memory. These can all negatively impact an employee’s ability to perform their job properly. For employers trying to maintain safe workplaces and productive employees, there are three critical questions that must be answered... Click here to read more: https://zurl.co/Z6DZ

Reliable Drug Testing in a Legalized World
About us
Buzzkill Labs is modernizing drug testing for a world of legal cannabis. We provide a rapid, cost-effective oral fluid (saliva) test that distinguishes and detects THC parent compound, the psychoactive component of cannabis that causes impairment. Our technology determines only workday use of THC in 20 minutes, with no interference from CBD or past-use metabolites.

The two most studied compounds in cannabis, THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol) the main intoxicating part of the cannabis plant, and CBD (cannabidiol) the main non-intoxicating part, may not balance each other out like it's commonly claimed. The two are often pitted against each other, but their effects on the human body may not be in a tug-of-war after all. A new double-blinded clinical trial has poked a hole in the hypothesis that CBD can take the edge off THC, reducing negative side effects like intoxication, cognitive impairment, or anxiety. Instead, at high enough doses, CBD seems to actually enhance the intoxicating effects of THC. via ScienceAlert https://zurl.co/3uKB

Pittsburgh City Councilmember Barb Warwick is proposing a new bill that would exclude medical marijuana cardholders in the city from drug testing requirements. The ordinance would add these patients to the list of protected groups under the city code, classifying certain employment practices as discrimination. Exceptions to the ordinance would include drug testing after a workplace accident, or when an employer has reasonable suspicion that an employee is under the influence while at work. Employers also could still test those in positions that require them to carry a firearm or use a commercial driver's license. via KDKA-TV https://zurl.co/rFXL

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) proposed rules earlier this year that would officially give cannabis status as a medication rather than an illegal narcotic – that’s exciting news for researchers, but will rescheduling mean that cannabis could soon move from the dispensary to the drug store? Experts say it’s not that simple. via The Guardian
Cannabis will likely soon be legally classified as medicine. But medicine for what?

As marijuana use continues to rise and state-level marijuana legalisation sweeps the US, researchers and policymakers are grappling with a growing public safety concern: marijuana-impaired driving. The issue of marijuana-impaired driving has not been an easy one to tackle because, unlike alcohol, which has well-established thresholds of impairment, the metrics for marijuana’s effects on driving remain rather elusive. via The Mandarin
