The Community Foundation of the North State team spent last week attending the League of California Community Foundations conference in Fresno. We had an amazing time, connecting with our peers, listening to Luis Ortega speak to the power of storytelling for impact, Robert Golden's inspirational message about purpose, and many thought-provoking conversations with other foundation teams. Thanks to Central Valley Community Foundation for welcoming us to Fresno. Now time to get to work! #learning #growing #giving

🌟 I had a great time spending two days with my IECF colleagues at the League of California Community Foundations’s Conference in Fresno. We also celebrated the League's 30th Anniversary! 🎉 Over 175 colleagues representing over 30 community foundations attended. It was a chance to connect and collaborate on the meaningful work we do in our communities across all departments in person for the first time! I was especially grateful for our session with my communications colleagues and the ways we plan to share best practices and stay in touch. 🛎️ Fun Fact! This year, IECF completed the distribution of relief grants totaling $6.5 million from the Riverside County Nonprofit Assistance Fund to 67 nonprofit organizations within Riverside County’s five supervisorial districts. While I’ve been serving in the nonprofit sector for 24 years, community foundations just feel different. Because they are different. I’ve loved the past 18 months at Sacramento Region Community Foundation and the time this week at League of California Community Foundations’ conference left me happier and wanting even more! Thank you to the peers I met who let me grill them about endowments and fund minimus and investment pools and worried with me about community needs and advisor engagement and unrestricted funds. I left Fresno feeling inspired and challenged by those who get me and want to see our state thrive. I can’t wait to see you all again! Thanks for hosting us Central Valley Community Foundation.

From Fresno League of California Community Foundations first statewide conference to Sacramento Everyday Impact Consulting #BeBold conference, my #JBMF message is the same: time to unstick traditional philanthropic made up practices that hold community back, understand and learn the history of your #place that created systems oppressing #people, de-center yourself as a #funder and center and deeply listen to the people you’re supposed to support, increase your giving and go beyond the 5% imaginary threshold. It liberates your thinking, practice, and invites pivotal moments of reflection and rest. I am humbled to be in conversation with john a. powell of Othering & Belonging Institute at UC Berkeley today and yesterday with Marian Kaanon. Thank you Vince A.
