𝗢𝗹𝗱𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲, 𝗜𝗻𝗰. 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗟𝗮𝘆 𝗢𝗳𝗳 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 According to a WARN notice issued on Nov. 5 by the state of California, Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope, Inc. is closing its Los Angeles-area facility as of Dec. 31, resulting in 113 employees being laid off. The facility that is closing is located at 5631 Ferguson Drive, Commerce, California, 90022. OBE will continue to serve the Southern California market from its existing facilities in Fremont, California, and Phoenix, Arizona.  The company issued the following statement regarding the closure: This decision reflects the company’s continued efforts to optimize its operations to better serve the market with the high-quality building materials that customers have come to expect from North America’s leading manufacturer of architectural glass and metal. Affected employees will be provided with competitive transition packages, including eligibility for severance payments, Employee Assistance Program (EAP) participation, and will have the opportunity to apply for jobs at other OBE locations. 🗳️ Election Day Update: California Prop. 2: ‘Yes’ votes comfortably lead for school, college bonds initiative In the first hours after polls closed in California, “yes” votes for Proposition 2, a measure that would allow the state to issue $10 billion in bonds to help build or provide upgrades to educational facilities, comfortably led by around 1 million votes. If the initiative were to pass, $8.5 billion in bonds would be destined for K-12 schools, including charter schools, with the other $1.5 billion for community colleges. The measure would also require that the state provide a higher percentage of the money needed for schools in lower-resourced districts. The glass industry was well represented at the Kids Construction Expo in San Diego this weekend. CGA’s Kristie Rehberger and Andrew Haring, along with volunteers from A Glasco, Inc., Pacific Coast Glazing, Inc. and FHC Frameless Hardware Company LLC, were on hand to introduce kiddos to the #glass and #glazing industry. We cut, installed and decorated (also torched) all day with some bright, young kids open to the idea of a career path in #construction. Thank you to the families and volunteers that showed up, and to #FHC and GLASSWERKS LA for donating people and materials to help educate/expose the next generation.
