We launched our 2024-2025 New Generation Leaders Roundtable with 23 members from 14 design firms across North America in Dallas on September 11-12. This initiative focuses on building meaningful connections and fostering growth for newly appointed and emerging leaders, with discussions centered around individual leadership challenges, business and governance models, brand development, and people and culture. This group will meet virtually through mid-2025. Special thanks to our own Betsy del Monte, FAIA and Rick del Monte, FAIA, DBIA for leading participants on a private tour of the Nasher Sculpture Center, where we explored its remarkable collection and the inspiring interplay of art and architecture. CMG’s Betsy del Monte, FAIA, LEED BD+C, has co-authored “Creating the Regenerative School” with Alan Ford, FAIA and Kate Mraw. Published by ORO Editions, the 376-page book profiles global case studies that highlight best practices in designing healthy, climate-responsive learning environments for early education through high school. The designs showcased not only offer aesthetically pleasing spaces but also incorporate restorative principles, benefiting occupants, the environment, and the surrounding community. Each case study is presented with eight pages of content, including photographs, plans, diagrams, and narratives detailing unique solutions. Evaluated on metrics such as Net-Zero Energy/Carbon Strategies, Regenerative Building Attributes, Evidence-Based Design, Occupant Satisfaction, and Post-Occupancy Data, the book also features essays from leading experts. Extensive research, interviews, and data analysis underpin the book’s mission to provide insights essential for creating regenerative educational environments. How a design firm grows up... It was gratifying to speak to about 200 people on this popular topic with my colleague Betsy del Monte, FAIA last week at the AIA national conference in DC. We covered the evolution of design firm structure, leadership, and governance based on our work as practice leaders and advisors. All successful firms experience common growing pains along with generational change...upcoming posts will focus on specific challenges and ways to address them. Stay tuned!

This week, CMG's Clark Davis, FAIA, LEED AP and Betsy del Monte, FAIA are giving a talk at The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Conference on Architecture & Design in Washington D.C. On Wednesday, June 5th from 11am - Noon EDT at the Convention Center (Room 146C), they'll be presenting about "How a design firm grows up: Evolution in structure & governance." https://lnkd.in/dUmfmQp8 Firms generally place the majority of their energy on client projects, but this session takes a deep dive into the firm as a design challenge. The presenters have a wealth of knowledge to share as longtime firm principals, AIA leaders, and experienced advisors to some of today's most respected design practices. They'll address specific audience interests and explore valuable case studies about evolving organization, leadership, and governance practices in successful architecture firms. In this session, you'll learn how to prepare your own firm for future growth and success. #AIA24 #AIAconference
