Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library (TRPL) seeks to set a new standard for sustainability by creating a building that is firmly rooted in place. TRPL’s climate action plan is deeply rooted in an extensive ecological assessment of the site to establish a clear baseline for ambitious ecological restoration, the potential for carbon sequestration, and a biophilic design framework to ensure that nature is appropriately honored in the design and construction process. At this LF25 session, learn firsthand from the team behind TRPL about the criteria, design intent, and implementation lessons learned. When thinking of home security, our minds may jump to sturdy locks, strong foundations, or even a trip-free layout; however, lurking within the building materials are unseen hazards to our long-term health. More architects and builders are embracing safer materials—eliminating toxic chemicals and prioritizing Red List free products that protect both residents and the planet. The affordable housing sector is stepping up to lead the shift to safer materials—proving that healthier, cost-effective alternatives are available and scalable. In our latest Trim Tab article, Susan Puri, Director of Affordable Housing, dives into the Safer Materials Shift, an 18-month project to help accelerate the use of Red List Free and Approved products in the affordable housing sector. Read: The Shift to Safer Materials » https://bit.ly/4bNTTrX The Safer Materials Shift project is working with a cohort of affordable housing developers and architects, including Housing Partnership Network and Stewards of Affordable Housing for the Future (SAHF) members, Preservation of Affordable Housing, Mercy Housing, Foundation Communities, and other leaders in affordable housing through the country such as Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation, Foundation for Homeless and Poverty Management, Magnusson Architecture and Planning PC, PYATOK architecture + urban design, Architects FORA, and David Baker Architects. - #LivingFuture #RedList #AffordableHousing #HealthyMaterials
