We are truly saddened to hear of the passing of Dodgers’ legendary pitcher, Fernando Valenzuela. It was an honor to work with our partners on creating these memorable pieces over the years at Dodger Stadium and Camelback Ranch to help celebrate his amazing career. He was known to pay careful attention to the details of these tributes, and we appreciated the opportunity to collaborate with him on making the displays impactful. Thank you Joe Lemire from Sports Business Journal for diving deep into details of Janet Marie Smith’s and Stan Kasten's incredible vision and transformation for recent improvements to Dodger Stadium. The annual expansion efforts of the third oldest ballpark in MLB has been an intricate journey for the Los Angeles Dodgers’s planning and development team, for our Canopy Team, along with many talented collaborators. “We started thinking about this whole building psychology, that when you give people space, they respond with respect,” Smith said. “There aren’t crazy concession lines, there aren’t crazy restroom lines. There’s room to breathe.” #beyondthebleachers
There's no better walking tour guide than Janet Marie Smith. I had the pleasure of her showing me around her Fenway improvements a half-dozen years ago, and earlier this week we did the same at Dodger Stadium. Impressive renovation/expansion to improve the fan experience and be commercially additive for the club while looking like it was always constructed that way. 🎉 A historic street dedication at Mission Rock! We proudly unveiled Dr. Maya Angelou Lane and Toni Stone Crossing, honoring two distinguished Black women who broke racial, gender, and social barriers. Joined by the families of Dr. Maya Angelou and Toni Stone, we also unveiled a stunning statue of Toni Stone, created by artist dana king. Dr. Maya Angelou, the celebrated poet, author, and activist, used her powerful voice to fight for civil rights and social justice. Toni Stone made history as the first woman to play on a professional baseball team with men, specifically the San Francisco Sea Lions. Both women overcame formidable challenges, forever altering the landscape of possibility for everyone. "We celebrate the street dedication and statue unveiling as outstanding examples of inclusion, which is a core value at the Port," said Kimberly Brandon, Port of San Francisco Commission President. "In elevating and recognizing these two trailblazing women, we continue the work of making sure the waterfront is a place of opportunity and enjoyment for all." Photos by Arianna Cunha, MPH
