One in nine people in the Washington, D.C. region face food insecurity challenges, with Wards 7 and 8 experiencing some of the greatest need. Through activations at the CareFirst Arena and partnerships with local nonprofits, sports teams and community organizations, we’re expanding access to healthy food and nutrition programs because healthier communities start with healthier food. We’re thrilled to announce a $7.1 million grant that will support 31 community organizations to combat diabetes across Washington, D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia. This funding will expand local food systems, implement food-is-medicine programs and promote food literacy and health education programs. Together, alongside our partners, we’re addressing the root causes of this chronic condition and making strides towards better health outcomes for our shared communities.
