Get to know Maria Planas, MA, BHSA, LPN, who started as a Pre-cert Nurse and eventually went on to become the first HEDIS nurse at CarePlus. She continued her growth within CarePlus as an Associate Director for the South Florida field case managers and coordinator team in the Inpatient Department. For the past two years, she has worked in the Clinical Strategy Department as a Clinical Strategy and Practice Lead. August is National Immunization Awareness Month. At CarePlus, we recognize the critical role vaccinations play in safeguarding our health and the well-being of our communities. This month, let’s all do our part to educate our communities about the importance of vaccines, encourage timely vaccination across all age groups, and support initiatives that provide accessible vaccination services. In honor of National Intern Day we are excited to recognize Brianna De Armas who recently joined our CarePlus Digital team and has been supporting her team with social media presentations and other tasks such as updates to our CarePlus website. Brianna has been a valuable addition to the team, bringing energy, dedication, and fresh perspectives. Brianna is about to begin her senior year at Florida International University, majoring in psychology with a double minor in Professional Sales and Social Media & E-Marketing Analytics. She plans to pursue a Master’s degree that will tie in her passion for sales and marketing. Some fun facts about Brianna: Outside of her internship and college, she is a high school cheerleading coach and the Alumni and Parent Relations Director for her sorority, Alpha Xi Delta.

Get to know Raul Cortina, one of our Stars Improvement professionals. He recently reached his 10-year milestone with CarePlus. Raul initially started working as a temporary administrative assistant, and after a brief 3 months, he was given the opportunity to join the Stars Maximization department. As part of his current role, Raul is a Certified Nurse Reviewer and operates the Osteoporosis Management in Women (OMW) HEDIS measure. Some fun facts about Raul: For the past 8 years, he has been a Well-being Champion for CarePlus, running volunteer opportunity events, providing wellness presentations to new associates, and even hosting his very own Salsa for Steps sessions during our company-wide 100 Day Dash. We are grateful for the value associates like Raul bring to our organization.

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Axel Juan recently stepped into the role of CarePlus’ Regional Vice President of Health Services. Dr. Juan has been with CarePlus for almost 10 years and has 15 years of experience in managed care, in which time he has worked on strategic initiatives for operational efficiencies, Medicare requirements, utilization management, and quality standards. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics, has served as a Principal Investigator in hundreds of clinical drug trials, and is a graduate of the University of Florida and University of Miami. We are confident that Dr. Juan will help improve healthcare accessibility and quality health outcomes for our members.

Health equity is an important part of the conversation when considering the overall health of Medicare beneficiaries in Florida.
