Today it costs employers $35.3 billion a year to treat substance use disorder, but 94% of those struggling with substance use disorder aren’t getting the treatment they need. We need a solution that reins in costs and breaks down barriers to access to treatment that will make a difference in the lives of those dealing with substance use disorder, as well as their friends, families, workplaces and communities. Thanks to Heather Landi at Fierce Healthcare for highlighting Carrum’s brand new value-based treatment offering for substance use disorder. My colleague Christoph Dankert describes the challenge facing our system today: "There are a lot of treatment providers out there, you could almost use the term predatory. If you type substance use disorder into Google Search, you'll see the beautiful imagery of these fancy treatment centers, but the quality is questionable, because there's nobody on the hook for actually getting you better. Employers want their employees to go to high-quality, high-value places for treatment and providers who are on the hook to get to better outcomes. https://lnkd.in/gRx9_sB3 #valuebasedcare #substanceusedisorders #healthcareinnovation
#InTheNews How big of a problem is substance use? How much does it cost employers each year? Why is it that 94% of people dealing with it don’t receive any treatment? Get answers to these questions and more in this Fierce Healthcare story by Heather Landi. The story delves into Carrum’s news of launching a value-based substance use treatment program that improves quality while reducing costs by 52%, and why this has never been attempted before. Heather spoke with our Chief Network Officer Christoph Dankert who shared why employers and members face huge bills for questionable outcomes and quality - and why access to high quality care is so important. "It's a real challenge, and it's compounded by the fact that there is a real out-of-network problem," Dankert said. Today is a landmark day for Carrum Health. We take immense pride in building care treatment solutions that make a meaningful impact on our members, restore them to good health, and remove the burden of outsized bills from their shoulders. We also have a history of listening carefully to employers to learn about their critical needs and designing thoughtfully crafted solutions in direct response to their needs. It’s this razor focus that led to our news today - launching a first-of-its-kind value-based substance use treatment program for a high prevalence, high-cost condition. This has been three years in the making, since no two patients follow the same treatment pathway, costs vary widely and relapse rates are high. A Fortune-50 retailer came to us seeking a Centers of Excellence solution to tackle substance use, and our team got to work, wrangled the complexities, and road-tested it with successful outcomes, so we can now offer it widely to employers nationwide. https://lnkd.in/gnxjnryR #valuebasedcare #substanceusedisorders #healthcareinnovation

Today Carrum Health announces the launch of a brand new substance use treatment program developed expressly to address a critical unmet need – America’s substance use epidemic. We are proud to unveil a first of its kind value-based substance use treatment solution, to tackle a $35 billion annual cost for employers, with better patient outcomes and 52% cost savings. Seventy million people deal with opioid and alcohol use disorders, which have a devastating impact not just on them but their families and friends, and their ability to function in the workplace and daily life. When employers share their concerns, we listen. Carrum has a decade of experience developing innovative solutions for complex problems, in direct response to employers’ critical needs. That’s how we designed our surgical care program in 2014, why we launched the commercial market’s very first value-based cancer care program in 2021, and why we’re the first to apply value-based care to substance use treatment. After a successful launch with a Fortune 50 employer which sought Carrum’s help, the program is now being launched nationally with many current and new clients offering the benefit to their employee populations beginning January, 2025. With Carrum’s substance use program, employers benefit from: 🔵 52% cost savings over traditional models 🔵 $0 out of pocket costs for employees 🔵 Access to top providers and evidence-based treatment centers nationwide Learn more about how we bring our value-based care expertise to substance use treatment and transform patients’ lives: https://lnkd.in/eqA5eFM7 #valuebasedcare #substanceusedisorder #behavioralhealth #opioidcrisis #healthcareinnovation
