EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: KINHONG KAN Last month, our VP of Engineering Kinhong Kan proudly represented Cartera at Rakuten’s annual CTO Summit in Tokyo. This prestigious event gathered 80 of Rakuten’s top tech leaders to discuss leveraging AI and cloud technologies. Kinhong, who says he joined Cartera in 2018 because of our family-friendly culture and leadership’s openness to new ideas, has an impressive background. He founded two software companies and holds degrees in Computer Science & Engineering and Electrical Engineering, plus an MS in Engineering, from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and an MBA in Finance from The Wharton School. The trip marked Kinhong’s first visit to Tokyo in 25 years. He described the city as “a reflection of tradition, order, and hard work,” and enjoyed its vibrant energy and delicious food. He’s excited to bring what he learned from his global colleagues back to Cartera – A Rakuten Company, including insights on Rakuten’s early wins from its investment in AI. Other highlights of the trip included team-building activities like bowling and Karaoke on a traditional Japanese Yakatabune boat. There were so many incredible moments at our 4th Annual Employee Resource Group Leadership Summit, held at Rakuten International HQ on September 16 - 18 and sponsored by our Global Talent Management and Inclusion team. If I had to pick a top highlight, it would be moderating an executive panel discussion with Rakuten International Chief Operating Officer Adrienne Down Coulson, Rakuten Advertising CEO Nick Stamos, and Collective Voice General Manager (and RrakAbility Executive Sponsor) Lindsay Jerutis.
