Friday, Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell joined business leaders and developers to sign legislation that waives new development projects in downtown neighborhoods from the full design review process for three years. This plans to increase economic activity and vitality in the city’s center and decrease the amount of time and cost to complete projects. Our Matt Hutchins AIA CPHD, serving on the Seattle Planning Commission, joined the bill signing. Another house tour with AIA CRAN Symposium in Seattle—this 1950s Ranch has very low ceilings, but it feels so good with floor-to-ceiling glass to take in the views and lush landscape. The AIA Washington Council awarded the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe Hatchery + Beach Shelter with a Civic Design Award. The Civic Design Awards celebrates the best examples of what can be realized when architects and civic clients work together to achieve quality design.  https://lnkd.in/g8Vm5-SM At the beach at Point Julia on land occupied by the tribe since time immemorial, the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe’s Hatchery and Beach Shelter combines pragmatic uses with symbolic content. The lower level of the Hatchery houses a garage, maintenance shop, and egg-incubation room with equipment that is both durable and moveable. The upper floor contains offices, water-quality testing, and filtration equipment. The conference room on the southwest corner can be entered separately, accessible to the wider community.
