We have an entrepreneurial spirit here that creates wealth, builds communities, and brings jobs! Our team at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Center just completed their second successful cohort of Mercadito Raices. This small business incubator program was launched by the Ohio Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in 2017, with primary operations assumed by Catholic Social Services in 2023 in partnership with the US Small Business Association (SBA) and the SBDC. We are honored that Catholic Social Services has a part to play in building a strong diverse future for our business community. This past weekend at Columbus’ Festival Latino, we launched many of the 19 new businesses incubated at CSS over the past 6 months, creating nearly 50 jobs. https://lnkd.in/gp2n3mFJ

Thanks so much, Colleen for your kind words and compassion for our work!
The best nonprofit leaders have a lot in common with founders. I was chatting with a dear friend of mine yesterday about the mindset of an entrepreneur - that there’s this gravity for us towards the work. It’s where our minds go when we have available time. It’s an energy that lights up within us. (Of course, like all qualities, in unhealth it can easily give way to less desirable qualities like workaholism, but we were talking about this energy in health). I see a strong correlation between this energy in entrepreneurs and those who I most admire in the nonprofit sector. The humble and passionate people we all think of when we think of the organizations that are profoundly impacting those they serve and the world around them. The nonprofit leaders I’m thinking of are so passionate about their mission that they’re willing to sacrifice their comfort, their resources, their time in order to fully pour their energy into the work they do to fuel their mission. They are relentless in their resourcefulness. They are always asking the question of whether their time would be better spent on something the organization needs. They see how their input into the organization multiplies in the output of good they’re able to do. Ever talk to someone working towards a grant deadline? There’s a focus and a furious hope there that makes the intensity all worth it. The leaders in this space do this with a heart for something far greater than personal gain, they operate from their calling. They are passionate advocates for those they serve and they will go down fighting for their mission. (To name names, I was thinking specifically about some of my friends at the Renaissance Performing Arts Association , TAKING ROOT FARMS , Catholic Social Services of Columbus , Richland County Foundation , and the The Salvation Army Kroc Center of Ashland when I was writing this, though I could easily tag dozens of you).
