About us
The Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas (CBCST) was founded on May 20, 1997 as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. Recognizing the permanent impact loss can have on young people, the CBCST was established to help children and families, from every social and economic circumstance, who are grieving the death of a loved one. In a culture that does not talk about grief and bereavement, and in a world that doesn’t “get it,” we do. Our Mission: To foster healing for grieving youth, their families and the community through peer support programs, counseling, training, education and outreach. Program Format / Activities: The CBCST incorporates a comprehensive group support process to assist children, teens, young adults and their families with the resolution of grief issues. These groups are open-ended, meet twice a month and are offered free-of-charge to our clients. Children who attend our programs engage in therapeutic activities that incorporate art, writing, music and movement, dance and dramatic play to help process feelings of grief. Our programs help grieving children develop healthy coping skills while restoring a sense of normalcy with surviving family members.

As we close out Mental Health Awareness Month, we are sending a big thank you to all of the “feelings helpers” - social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, and other professionals who support kids through tough times. https://lnkd.in/eTwWsDnu #EmotionalWellbeing #Resources

Got old magazines taking up space at home? 📚✨ We’d love to take them off your hands! Collaging is a wonderful expressive arts tool that helps our clients convey their emotions through images and words. This summer, as part of our support groups, we'll be encouraging clients to create collages showing how they cope during tough times. They'll include their favorite foods, song lyrics, and calming spaces to serve as visual reminders of their go-to coping strategies. Your magazine donations can help make this possible! 💖 Drop off your magazines at the Center now through June 28th! Message us with any questions 😊
