On World Food Day—an annual opportunity to recommit to the idea of every child deserves to grow up well-nourished—we'd like to thank our partners who have come together to commit a combined $10 billion in philanthropic contributions, in-kind donations, community-based initiatives, academic research and private investments to help end hunger in the United States. These commitments are from organizations large and small working to make an impact in communities across the country. #ICYMI: Dr. Judy Monroe, our president and CEO, was in D.C. earlier this week to participate in the launch of Trust for America's Health's new report: Pathway to a Healthier America: A Blueprint for Strengthening Public Health for the Next Administration and Congress. Read the full report for details on six priority areas that, if acted upon, will better position the U.S. to manage public health risks and build a healthier nation: https://lnkd.in/euxtMPAJ.
As seen today in D.C.: Public health collaboration, a sense of urgency and a blueprint for building a healthier America. The Trust for America's Health's event releasing their new report—Pathway to a Healthier America: A Blueprint for Strengthening Public Health for the Next Administration and Congress—was a call to action for all those interested in improving the nation’s health, economy and national security. It was a pleasure to join Nadine Garcia, president and CEO of Trust for America's Health, Paul Kuehnert, president and CEO of the Public Health Accreditation Board, Virginia Caine, president of the National Medical Association, Leslie Ann Dauphin, director of the Public Health Infrastructure Center at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and others to hear from former secretaries of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Kathleen Sebelius and Michael Leavitt, discuss the specific actions our country can take to improve the nation’s health outcomes and bolster its economic and national security by strengthening the public health system. We need continuous improvement of public health infrastructure, investment in public health data modernization, efforts to bolster recruitment, retention and the resilience of the public health workforce and stable funding to ensure public health is there when Americans need it most. As this report and today's discussion made clear: The public health system is at an inflection point. Now is the time to act.

This year during Hispanic Heritage Month, we're celebrating the theme, "Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together." Organizations, like CARECEN-Central American Resource Center, are true changemakers. They understood that Latino immigrants in LA who are day laborers often cannot afford to take time away from searching for jobs to tend to their own health needs, so they brought info and vaccines to them. Watch how they support the health of this community: #CommunitiesInAction

Our President and CEO Dr. Judy Monroe is in Washington, D.C., today participating in the release of the Pathway to a Healthier America: A Blueprint for Strengthening Public Health for the Next Administration and Congress report. The report states: Too many people are still suffering from preventable health problems, weather-related emergencies are occurring more frequently and with more intensity and population-level health disparities persist. The new report from Trust for America's Health outlines how the nation can come together to strengthen our public health infrastructure and its workforce. On #WorldMeningitisDay, we commemorate the important advances made in the fight to control this deadly disease, including the introduction of vaccines that have saved millions of lives in the countries of the meningitis belt of Sub-Saharan Africa. Through our continued work with our partners in MenAfriNet, an international network of public health organizations, we continue to support and improve meningitis surveillance to help countries respond quickly to outbreaks.

Strong partnerships that bring resources and expertise together is a key element of the Hunger, Nutrition and Health Action Collaborative. “We feel like you can do more together than separately. These problems are pretty big. They take a lot to overcome them.” — Natalie Haynes, executive director of the Vitamix Foundation. The Vitamix Foundation is one of the many partners we're bringing together to help drive collaboration, foster innovation and amplify initiatives that support ending hunger across the United States.
