  • CEDAM’s Director of Communications & Training Emily Reyst was in the U.P. last week to attend the EUP Regional Planning & Development Commission’s emerging developers road show. The Commission leads the Region C Regional Housing Partnership—it’s great to see successful events like these, which are critical to bringing more people into the field to address our community’s housing needs and reaching the goals of the Statewide Housing Plan!

Last week I had the opportunity to visit Sault St. Marie (for the first time!?) to join the Eastern Upper Peninsula Regional Planning & Development Commission, Cinnaire and MEDC MiPlace for their emerging developers road show. It was great to see so many partners come together to talk with emerging developers about how to get started and the resources available to make a project feasible. I especially enjoyed getting to tour CEDAM member Community Housing Network, Inc.'s recent 11 unit housing development in the Soo, a $4 million dollar deal utilizing historic tax credits, MEDC's CRP funds, MSHDA's missing middle dollars, and a handful of other sources to make it happen. Bonus: Seeing the Soo locks for the first time, getting peak fall colors, and an amazing sunset heading back down over the bridge. There's great stuff happening in the U.P. and I can't wait for CEDAM to host our rural Boot Camp in Marquette next fall!

  • Tuesday was an exciting day for CEDAM! Ahead of our Regional Event, we hosted our Board of Directors for a luncheon to catch up with our team, each other, and hear from Remy Gelderloos, Deputy Chief of Staff for Senator Sarah Anthony to learn more about the state budget as it relates to housing and community development. During our Regional Event right after, we heard from Gillian Gainsley (Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy); Tim Klont (Michigan State Housing Development Authority); Kim Trent (Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO); Michelle Wasylecki (United Way of South Central Michigan); Amber Paxton (Office of Financial Empowerment at the City of Lansing, Michigan); and Emily Reyst (CEDAM). Our presenters shared programmatic and state agency updates to our network of community development practitioners from across the state. Thank you all for joining us and providing valuable information to our attendees! It was great to catch up with so many members new and old, including several of our Real Estate Development Boot Camp alumni. Thank you to Cinnaire for sponsoring this event! #CommunityChampions #CEDAM #CommunityDevelopment #EconomicInclusion #EconomicDevelopment #CleanEnergy
