Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) reposted this
The global stocktake (GST) decision from COP28 sets out a number of key, transformational global targets and signals to Parties to: (i) inform their next nationally determined contributions (NDCs); and (ii) enhance implementation and international cooperation. Parties are expected to communicate more ambitious NDCs by February 10, 2025. Achieving the target to double energy efficiency globally by 2030 is critical for staying within the 1.5°C limit of the Paris Agreement. This Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) paper considers: 🌏 barriers and solutions, as identified by our work and others, that must be addressed and implemented to enable real action 🌎 how leadership can be encouraged and effectively utilized, and 🌍 key priorities for 2024-26. Would be interested in your thoughts!

Long duration energy storage (LDES) will play a key role in building a cleaner grid. Its ability to store days, instead of hours, worth of energy provides the grid with more flexibility in the case of extreme weather events. In early June, C2ES convened a group of stakeholders from across Virginia for a regional roundtable on LDES. The conversation paired LDES companies and experts with policymakers and community representatives interested in learning more about the unique aspects of the technology. Our latest policy brief, out today, offers a more in-depth look at policy recommendations. https://bit.ly/3NjoZfM Key recommendations include: 🔋 Educate businesses, policymakers, and communities about LDES technologies and use cases. 🔋 Engage communities proactively, transparently, and comprehensively 🔋 Value the benefits of long-duration energy storage in policy incentives and markets. Check out our blog on LDES for more: https://bit.ly/3VLr2wW
