About us
Fair Futures is a youth-led advocacy movement and coalition of 100+ organizations and foundations advocating for all young people in New York City’s foster care system to have access to the long-term, comprehensive supports they need to achieve their potential. The Fair Futures Youth Advisory Board was successful in securing and baselining $30.7 million, making NYC the first in the nation to support young people in foster care from 6th grade through age 26 with public funding. The NYC Administration expanded funding for young people in the juvenile justice sector in FY23 to have access to the model.

The Bronx Hope Passages Academy Counseling Team invited the Center for #FairFutures to deliver a series of housing workshops for their students in Close to Home and Non-Secure Detention. The Center's Director of Housing, Mecca Phinizy, led six back-to-back workshops where students learned about their housing options, supports, and how to apply. So many of the students left with detailed notes and specific next steps, and all left knowing something about housing that they didn't before! Stephanie Dueño

Tomas Hunt, Director of Education and Government Relations at New Alternatives For Children, balances being a fierce advocate, innovator, and leader while guiding his team with a very warm, highly supportive, and positive perspective. Making him a true #FairFuturesHero! Tomas has an empathic nature, and he shows up for his team and youth with a strength-based approach. His authenticity shines through every interaction he has with his team and young people. Anyone who has the pleasure of working with him is left with a feeling that they can accomplish anything. Fair Futures often asks: “What keeps us motivated to continue working despite high turnover rates in this field and unique challenges that cause others to leave?” We would say it’s Tomas that keeps us going. Tomas is everything! Tomas is surely a Fair Futures hero!
