The world’s supply of critical minerals like lithium, cobalt and nickel is being snatched up – and China’s large share comes from unfair and unethical practices. CIPE is part of the global effort to combat such harmful economic and expansionist influences of authoritarian regimes by calling out corrosive capital investments and promoting constructive investments in accountable markets – helping U.S. businesses and others compete fairly. bit.ly/4iIPYPU

#ICYMI - CIPE Executive Andrew Wilson at the Atlantic Council’s #GlobalProsperityForum: “The values of free enterprise reflect and reinforce the values of democracy – if we look at the basic values of corporate governance as defined by the OECD we find at their heart the need for fairness, transparency, responsibility and accountability.” bit.ly/4j3M6J7

Fair competition can only flourish when businesses operate with transparency and openness. In Chile, a longtime US trade ally, CIPE and partner Chile Transparente have been collaborating on legislation that would require foreign and domestic corporations operating within Chile to disclose their final beneficiaries, including authoritarian regimes that are seeking to damage democratic institutions. bit.ly/41B3xtu

At CIPE, we don’t just support democracy and promote business. We bring about fairer regulations, stronger supply chains, and reduced conflict. Through these and other avenues, we expand opportunity for US firms and their products to export, grow, and truly prosper. We are part of America's investment in a safer and more profitable global market. #FreeToCompete https://lnkd.in/e_wvsbdZ

CIPE Executive Director Andrew Wilson at the Atlantic Council Freedom and Prosperity Center’s Global Prosperity Forum: “Corrosive capital is a phenomenon of capital from authoritarian states that enters markets and has a corrosive effect on the rule of law in those markets because they promote corruption or they encourage governments to ignore their own laws, labors, and standards. By its nature, like water through cracks, corrosive capital corrodes the rule of law in the country that it’s working in.” #Path2Prosperity

Heard at the at the Atlantic Council Freedom and Prosperity Center’s Global Prosperity Forum: “Trade shifts are occurring in a period of global power competition pitting the values of democracy, freedom, and honest economic competition against nontransparent, authoritarian, state-directed economic models that assault the institutions that provide freedom and prosperity.” - Andrew Wilson, CIPE Executive Director

Free markets thrive on competition and a level playing field – but China dominates by breaking the rules. Did you know that it controls half the world's nickel supply for steel and batteries? China distorts prices, exploits forced and child labor, and manipulates laws to undercut fair competition, putting American firms at a disadvantage. Want to know how we can push back? CIPE's latest issue brief offers global policymakers real solutions to mitigate these risks. Check it out! bit.ly/3FDZyVy
