Transforming the Way the World Travels

About us

The Center for Responsible Travel (CREST) is a globally recognized nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming the way the world travels. Based in Washington, DC but with an international scope, CREST provides solutions, resources, and support to governments, policymakers, tourism businesses, and nonprofit organizations to confront tourism’s most pressing issues. Founded in the wake of the UN’s International Year of Ecotourism, CREST initially focused on the role of small-scale ecotourism in empowering communities and conserving precious resources. Over time, our work has evolved to consider how all tourism can be more responsibly planned, developed, and managed across all sectors and geographies. Through innovative field projects, research, consultancies, and advocacy, CREST is taking action to address our world’s key threats to securing a sustainable future.

  • We are honored to have UXUA Casa Resort & Spa join us as a Community Sponsor, bringing their exemplary commitment to sustainability and social progress to the Forum all the way from Trancoso, Brazil. 🌊 UXUA's impact goes far beyond hospitality, and their innovative approach has earned them a place on Virtuoso's Sustainable Tourism Leadership Award shortlist three years in a row, and it's clear why. Rather than simply envisioning themselves as a hotel, they expand further. As UXUA puts it, "It's an experiment, created to make positive impacts, elevate local craft traditions, encourage progressive working practices and education, increase social mobility and give visibility and support to our Native American neighbors, all while promoting environmental conservation." 🗣️ We’re excited to announce that UXUA's owner, Bob Shevlin, will share more about the company's bold approach during his session, “Brazil Case Study: The Power of Collective Action and Alliance-Building to Foster Justice in a Destination”. Join us to learn how collective action can create meaningful change in tourism! See you next week to connect with UXUA and learn more about their impactful initiatives! #WorldTourismDay #SustainableTourism #UXUA #ResponsibleTravel #CommunitySponsor #JusticeInTourism #CrossCulturalConnections #EnvironmentalConservation
