  • Nearly half of all adults in the U.S.—around 117 million people—are affected by preventable chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, certain cancers, and poor bone health. These conditions are often linked to poor dietary patterns and physical inactivity. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2020-2025, highlight a critical issue: many people do not consume sufficient amounts of essential nutrients like calcium, potassium, dietary fiber, and vitamin D. Inadequate intake of these nutrients can adversely affect: Bone Health 🦴 Blood Pressure Regulation 🩸 Digestive Health 🩺 Overall Bodily Functions 💪🏼 To address these gaps, the USDA and HHS have developed new resources to help consumers and nutrition professionals identify and incorporate these vital nutrients into their diets. These tools offer practical advice on integrating calcium, dietary fiber, potassium, vitamin D, and iron into a range of foods and beverages, catering to various dietary preferences and cultural traditions. Explore these resources to improve your diet and help prevent chronic diseases by adding nutrient-rich foods to your routine. 🔗 Learn more and access the resources from USDA and HHS here: https://lnkd.in/gtU9qn8X #Go4Wellness #Nutrition #ChronicDiseasePrevention

  • 🔍 Recent research highlights a concerning trend: the prevalence of chronic hypertension in pregnancy in the U.S. has doubled from 2007 to 2021. This chronic condition, characterized by consistently high blood pressure, poses serious risks during pregnancy, especially for Black, American Indian, and Alaska Native communities, which face some of the highest rates of poor maternal health outcomes and pregnancy-related deaths. Addressing chronic hypertension is crucial for improving maternal health and reducing disparities. To manage hypertension effectively and reduce complications, consider these essential tips: 📅 Keep Your Prenatal Appointments: Regular visits to your healthcare provider are key for monitoring both your health and your child’s. 💊 Take Medications as Prescribed: Follow your provider’s guidance on blood pressure medication and low-dose aspirin to manage hypertension. 🏃🏼♀️ Stay Active: Adhere to your provider’s recommendations for physical activity to support overall health and blood pressure management. 🍴 Eat a Healthy Diet: Collaborate with a dietitian to create balanced meals that support a healthy pregnancy. 🚫 Avoid Harmful Substances: Steer clear of smoking, alcohol, and illegal drugs, and consult your provider before using nonprescription medications. To make significant strides, we must refine strategies for understanding and addressing gaps in treatment, particularly in high-risk groups. • 🍎 Food insecurity has profound effects on maternal and infant health, as detailed in a recent article by The Cigna Group. The study emphasizes a few interconnected factors that often contribute to food insecurity, such as economic instability, systemic inequities, and geographic barriers, all of which disproportionately affect pregnant women and young children. These challenges can lead to serious health risks for both mothers and their babies, emphasizing the urgent need for targeted support and interventions to address these complex issues.
