Trimming away from power lines helps keep our customers and communities safe and helps reduce the number of potential outages caused by vegetation. We’ve trimmed or removed higher-risk vegetation from 1,954 power line miles as part of the first phase of our Greater Houston Resiliency Initiative and remain focused on strengthening our grid.

On this National Dog Day, we spotlight working dogs such as Kelly, one of our natural gas leak detection sniffing dogs. Kelly goes through rigorous training to sniff out the odorant added to natural gas. She loves her job and uses her superb smelling senses and ability to access hard-to-reach areas to help keep our communities safe. Good girl Kelly! 🐾

As of today, we have successfully trimmed or removed higher-risk vegetation from 1,954 power line miles as part of the first phase of our Greater Houston Resiliency Initiative. With less than 50 power line miles to go, we’ll hit our target goal this week. This critical work will help to reduce outages from major storms and strengthen the grid for the remainder of the hurricane season.
