Through the California Strategic Growth Council and California Department of Housing & Community Development, the State has awarded cap-and-trade funds for 24 affordable housing projects. Those include 1401 Long Beach Boulevard, which received $24.3 million, and Century + Restorative Care Village near LA General Medical Center, which received $34.6 million. Together, these communities will provide nearly 450 supportive homes and essential services for LA County residents. Century Housing is committed to creating affordable housing. As a network of nonprofit affiliates, we finance, develop, and manage exceptional affordable housing communities across California. From our start in 1995, Century Housing Corporation has grown into a leading Community Development Financial Institution providing end-to-end financing for affordable and workforce housing. We have invested more than $2.8 billion in communities throughout California, creating more than 58,000 affordable and workforce homes. Century also serves as a skilled partner with developers, government agencies, and other CDFIs in pioneering innovative financing programs. We also develop and manage affordable and supportive housing through affiliates such as Century Affordable Development, Inc., Century Oasis Residential Services, and Century Villages at Cabrillo, our award-winning, 27-acre supportive housing community with more than 1,500 residents in Long Beach. We are a principal developer with our partners on master-planned communities including the West LA VA North campus and Rancho San Pedro. Century was born from one of the largest public works projects in U.S. history. In 1972, planning began on the Century (105) Freeway, a major thoroughfare that would connect the Los Angeles Airport to the city of Norwalk. Residents affected by the proposed freeway fought the construction and filed litigation seeking to temporarily halt construction. In 1979, a solution was reached: the creation of the Century Freeway Housing Program. This state agency was tasked with creating nearly 4,000 units of affordable housing for those displaced by the freeway's construction along with providing minority and female employment opportunities. Having successfully exceeded its initial housing development goal, the agency was privatized and renamed as Century Housing Corporation. Century remains the only known California state program converted into a private, nonprofit organization.

Transforming land surrounding an oil field into a vibrant community, The Banning reclaims a vacant lot to provide 64 units of affordable housing for those most in need. As urban areas become increasingly crowded, reclaiming spaces like this is essential to ensuring everyone has a home. The design connects a busy commercial boulevard with a residential neighborhood, using distinct massing, varied textures, and native landscaping to blend seamlessly with the surrounding area. Open spaces, natural light, and strong indoor/outdoor connectivity foster a sense of community where none previously existed. Standing in the lobby and looking out, you can see how design details like the courtyard oasis, linked between buildings by winding, interconnected pathways, and community-forming spaces bring the entire project together as a cohesive whole. These elements are crucial to transforming this formerly empty land into housing that is full of life and community. Investing in projects like The Banning addresses our region's housing crisis and enhances community well-being. The Banning, our new permanent supportive housing community from Century Affordable Development, Inc., is now open in Wilmington. Lease-up is well underway at this #MeasureHHH and #NoPlaceLikeHome-funded development, which offers 63 new homes for unhoused individuals. We are proud to celebrate the opening of Vida DTLA, now the largest master-leased building in the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority's portfolio. Century Housing Corporation provided Housing Diversity Corporation with acquisition financing for this vital project. Vida DTLA will offer 147 permanent supportive homes for unhoused community members, marking a significant step forward in addressing homelessness in the Downtown LA area. We are grateful to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors - LACountyBOS for its approval of critical funding for Century+Restorative Care Village (RCV), one of our newest projects by Century Affordable Development, Inc. Woven into the fabric of the LAC+USC Restorative Care Village, Century+RCV will foster a community built around wellness, recovery, and a sense of purpose. This development will feature 296 newly constructed units, offering affordable housing for seniors and low-income households, as well as permanent supportive housing. The project also includes a 12-bed respite program, a kitchen space for workforce training, and a retail shop envisioned as a social enterprise. We have important news to share with our community: Century Housing President & CEO and General Counsel Ronald Griffith has announced his retirement, effective September 2, 2024. Ron has been with Century since 1998, serving as Senior Vice President and General Counsel before becoming President & CEO in 2007. Ron's leadership has been instrumental in guiding Century Housing's mission and growth over the years. Daniel Lopez, a founding member of Century's Board of Directors, will serve as Interim President & CEO to ensure a smooth transition.
